Week 28 – (ITF W60) - Biarritz, France (Clay)

Some lovely photos of Fran, and the whole event, on the Biarritz tournament twitter feed:

Congratulations to Fran who looks so pleased to have won, lovely photo. The trophy I can however see ending up in the attic pretty pretty pronto. Fran gives the ball a good thump and I love the fact she battu her Russian opponent the word has an element of onomatopoeia to it all.

This is the last tournament that one can find Joanna Garland playing in. Presumably she has not opted to represent  Team GB. She played in November 2020 then next appeared from  mid June to July in clay court tournaments in Europe. Her ranking seems stuck in the 470 in the world range.

Very weirdly GAMEOVER, I was randomly on tennisexplorer about 10-15 mins ago to see what Joanna was up to. I think it was because I was checking some USO girls quals results on TF, and saw that someone who beat Brenda Fruh the other day lost to a Taiwanese girl in the FQR who I remember Joanna played about 2 years ago in a WC vs WC WTA match, but still strange that this thread was bumped almost simultaneously, ha.

To be honest the success of Emma put me in mind of Joanna.  Just looked her  up on Tennis Abstract to see   what's she'd been up to. You wonder if she would have been better opting for GB if she was seeking fame and fortune.
