A 23 minute first set bagel, but she has got on the board ith a break to love and another to 15. Dropped serve in between though, but a hold makes it 3-1*
Missed a break point, then went up *40-0 at *4-3. Siniakova played two good points, Jodie double faulted, had a strop, and it all got predictably messy.
Out 6-0 6-4. Crowd was really in to this one which made it quite fun.
Did well to qualify and her performance against Gasanova was superb. A very tough opponent, but frustrating again that when she was playing very well and fighting hard to take it into a third set she got into her own head. Fight on.

I'm not sure this level of competition is really going to help Jodie right now; I would much prefer to see her getting a top 8 seeding at a 25k or 50k and play her way into a tournament to build that confidence. Much better performance in the 2nd set, but Siniakova is a class act.
- twice df when bp down, then back to back dfs from 40-30
2nd set
- Jodie breaks to love thanks to a truly terrible game from Siniakova
- Immediately down 0-40 after 2 backhand ues, saves 2 bps with unreturned 2nd serves, only for KS to strike a f winner to break
- KS starts with 2 dfs, Jodie with an aggressive b to set up bp, then a super b dtl for the break *2-1
- looks like a routine hold at 40-15, makes poor errors, ends up saving bp thanks to a poor error from KS, holds 3-1*
- one ace and 3 unreturned serves for KS *3-2
- sensational dtl shots from Jodie for 30-0, a rare unreturned serve for 40-15, more errors, more game points, landing far more first serves now, holds 4-2*
- good play from Jodie, then a KS volley long for 0-30, back to 30-30, JB agg f cc for 30-40, poor return wide on a modest 2nd serve, KS holds *4-3
- Impressive play from Jodie for 40-0 then falls to pieces, misses 5 first serves in a row, KS contributes a super drop shot winner but two dfs and 2 JB ues are the key to this break 4-4
- KS df for 15-30 but next two points are unreturned serves (one 1st and one 2nd), hold to 30 *4-5
- Down 0-40, saves 2 mps then a poor f ue long 4-6

In general probably yes, but this week presented profitable opportunities for our representatives with such weak WTA 250s around and she did play 2 qualifying matches, including that really good looking FQR win, before her MD match and has collected 18 (net13) ranking points along with the MD R1 prize money. And Jodie could easily have had a much better main draw than Siniakova. So I'd say a good choice.
Some would have been wondering what was up if opportunities in such a WTA 250 were not grasped.
1. Jodie needs a head coach. She needs the Joko school of "reset for every point"
2. She can't seem to adjust when she gets given a different look. From the baseline, it's good and she can move/defend but the moment she's pulled into the net or gets a short slice, she seems to have no idea how to handle it.
There's still a lot of potential there, she has all the basics to be a top 100 player if she can improve her match play and reign in the fatalistic attitude.
That's true; a lot of events this summer with diminished fields before the US hardcourt swing... nice to see a lot of the players getting straight on the road. I know a few tend to take a couple of weeks off to decompress after wimbledon. Would be super if Sam, Jodie and Katie managed so sneak into US open qualies. Looks possible with a couple of decent runs...
