Week 28 - WTA250 Prague, Czech Rep. Hard

Well, that's a nice bit of news - two players through in style, including beating the top Q seed, Sam in MD, Tara posted a very good score against a good player....

Like it....

All girls in the doubles too, Jodie playing with Stosur, against the second seeds.

Both Tara/Emina and Sam/Naiktha has winnable matches.

Good stuff. Was a great opportunity for good ranking points but still grasped in style, particularly by Jodie.

Sam must have rather mixed feelings about her MD promotion. Would have been nice to get qualifying points and/or a better looking MD.

Yes, nice work from Jodie. She must be aiming to make US Qpen Qs. What's the cut-off likely to be?

Yes I think Sam might have been better in qualies!! I suspect she entered with her protected ranking which might be why she was moved up ahead of Gasanova despite being seeded below her.

Very easy route for Naiktha.

Yes, Sam showing as the last DA with ranking 195 which must be a P.R. Still not enough to be ahead of Gasanova but as RS said later Gasanova didn't enter the MD.

I take it that Sam couldn't have unused her PR and settled for qualifying if that was what moved her ahead of other(s).

I wonder if the pressure of securing a Wimbledon wild card really affected Jodie and her results over the past couple of months, having lost one due to injury 2019 and last years cancellation. I hope now she can use this as a platform to reset; a great result. Good luck in the MD.

Great result for Jodie after a long barren spell. She's also been quite upset by trolls on social media for some time so should take her mind off the haters. Hopefully Naiktha can take advantage of her kind draw as well.

I don't understand why any professional athlete would use social media. It can't be good for mental health. All it takes is for one nutter to get under your skin.....it's a nut cluster out there!

I agree. For youngsters, either have a private account. Or don't have one. (Or try a public one and if it gets to you, then dump it, or make it private). You're just inviting trouble....

Sadly if you want to earn money off the court, you're going to struggle without a social media presence.

Yes, I totally understand why one might be needed for sponsors etc. that's part of being 'self employed' though so either hire someone to manage it or get a parent /relative to monitor it. If it's personal social media I agree with the above. I know Emma R has a big social network. I wonder how her team will manage that, especially after W19

Good news for the two wins - and 60 points apiece which is worth about a dozen places in the rankings.

Opponents won't be confirmed until tomorrow at the earliest.
