Week 27 - ITF (W25) W25 Lisbon, Portugal Hard

What's that about? Perez holds to 15 with no DFs.

*4-5

Getting worse. Perez served 3 more and Katie 4 more while they actually both got to deuce but still no holds this set.

4-4*

Perez just held and great minds think alike as I also cheecked the other match, of the 4 players on court 1 has 3 DF, 1 4 DF, Perez 5 DF and Katie 15 DF so clearly whatever the wind is like, Katie is finding it far harder to compensate

6-2 4-6

Thinking time for Katie.

Got 6/16 second serves in in set 2, winning 3 of these 6 points.

For once I am glad that I can't find a stream for the match - I don't think I could bear watching this.

Things had been going so well recently for Katie, no doubt building up her confidence

I watched the livestream, Katie's been playing with her upper back to right shoulder taped up, it was obviously pointing to an injury that was hindering her serve the whole match. She had the tape on in the previous match too, but the windy conditions in that match, and the consequent scoring masked the problem somewhat. Katie started well in this match, and Perez became frustrated and erratic. Unfortunately, with the injury, Katie began to lose confidence in her service game. She did well to keep breaking Perez and was still in contention to win the match at 1 set up, and 4-4 in the 2nd, but she hadn't held serve for a while, and Perez seemed to sense a recovery. Once the 2nd set was gone, it was only a matter of time. Katie deserves much credit for battling through the match without the big, accurate serve that is usually her rock. Hopefully with a bit of rest and rehab, she'll soon be back playing tough tennis again.

searching for "ITF W25 Open de São Domingos - 09/07/2021 - Court 1" on YouTube should enable folk to watch the match if they are interested. Also RaguetC.com seems to be an archive of past matches from that tournament.

Such a pity. She does seem very injury prone.

I looked all over the place fir a stream, but couldn't find one in any of thd usual places, including the betting sites.

Apologies, I hadn't been monitoring this forum, otherwise I'd have posted the link.

When I saw "Retired" on my notifications I feared the worst but thankfully it wasn't Katie this time.

I spoke one match too soon...

Poor Katie, every time she puts a string of decent results together this happens...
