Part of Mimi's ITF interview - I've highlighted the parts that stuck out for me (for different reasons) biggrin

"It's great that we have so many ITF World Tennis Tour events in Britain now and that is giving us a chance to understand what playing at that level is all about," says Xu, who played in qualifying for the main draw at Wimbledon in June.

"At the moment, my focus is on developing my game rather than results as that is the best area to focus on at this stage.

"Of course, we all want to win, but there is a great spirit among the British girls at the moment and we are all driving ourselves forward to the next level."

Xu has been busy off the court too, recently completing her maths A-Level two years early and the teenager has no plans to stop there as she hopes to maintain her love of studying alongside tennis.

"In my free time I just like to study. I don't know what else to do in my free time," she adds. "It's something different to tennis so it keeps my mind working.

"My tutor has been amazing. Whenever I have time I will have a lesson with her and it makes it a lot easier when I am away."

IIRC isn't Mimi a talented pianist as well?

I'm very loathe to call people 'talented' musicians just because they've passed reasonably high exams
(and I know about music lessons)
It's like calling someone a talented mathematician because they've got an A in A level maths
I believe she had Grade 7 on the piano, and that was last year or the year before, which is very good for her age. (I don't know what mark she got or level (distinction, merit, etc), though, and that makes a huge difference). And I think she also plays violin (and has a prety high grade on that too).
That generally shows, at a minimum, a lot of hard work, and lessons, and application, and parental encouragement, and a degree of musicality.
And bravo to her for that.

Given her comment above, "In my free time I just like to study. I don't know what else to do in my free time," she's obviously a very organised, applied girl, who likes to study, practice, and fill her time fruitfully in direct ways, and music is very good for that too.
