Mimi (Mingge) Xu

It's only the initial list (for Junior Wimbly, a couple of the top juniors entered, and then withdrew) but for the moment Mimi has surprised many by entering the US Open Juniors

Expect to see her first at Roehampton and Aldershot, though

I am not an expert on how many senior tournaments she has left as she is not 18 until October. She has spent a lot of time at home in Swansea for R and R rather than playing other GB tournaments she entered and then withdrew from. So maybe she was carrying a niggle at or after Wimbledon and did so well in the juniors fancies a last tilt at the US Open on her favoured hard courts. I will keep an eye on her socials.

There's unrestricted entry for 17 and 18 year olds , I believe

It's Appendix G in the rules

Only 16 year olds and younger have restrictions on adult entries

But, yes, she may have a niggle, or just needed a rest. Aldershot and Roehampton will tell us.

But that still doesn't really tie in with her interviews this summer where she sort of said she was done with juniors (although maybe - as said - she's just entered to keep her options open and then see where she is at the withdrawal deadline)

I thought it was 16 tournaments when they were 17, or maybe thats just WTA level and not ITF?

I think you're right Var

Sorry

WTA

17 Years of Age
Between the date of a players 17th birthday and the day before her 18th birthday, her AER Tournament Allotment and AER Wild Card Allotment are as follows.
(a) AER Tournament Allotment
A player may participate in a maximum of sixteen (16)
Professional Tennis Tournaments.
(b) AER Wild Card Allotment
Once a player reaches 17 years of age, she may accept the WTA and Womens ITF World Tennis Tour calendar year
Wild Card maximums. (See Section III.C.3 for information on WTA Wild Card maximums.) The number of Wild Cards
she may accept pursuant to the Wild Card Rule is calculated over the course of the Tour Year in which she turned 17
(i.e., any Wild Cards used under the AER by the player in that Tour Year prior to turning 17 will count toward the total number of Wild Cards permitted under the Rules).

It's unrestricted for junior events for players who are 17 or 18 years old - which is not the same at all
