Week 26 - Wimbledon - London (grass) - women's main draw

Pretty nervy from both. AT serving first helped her. Emma might swing a bit more freely now possibly

Just asked my son that as sure I recognised her - is she now a coach??

Hope Emma will win, never seen such poise and tenacity from an 18 year old. Come on Emma!!!!!

Had a couple of points for 5-5* but Alja takes her first set point. Incredible hitting from both but the Aussie just sneaked it.

Has the potential to evaporate from here from disappointment, but hopefully Emma can hang in tough. Alja will get very tight trying to close this out, it's huge for her.

4-6 0-0*

I watched a bit of the Ostapenko match and Tomljanovich wasn't playing this well.

Emma starting to look a little tired, the footwork is starting to go. Understandable, losing that set (after the break points and game points) will have been really deflating for her. But this level she's bringing is still immense, Alja playing so much better than I expected.

0-2*

It was too long to wait for the change of ends, it was obvious Emma was in difficulties for quite some time, she waited quite a while before asking the umpire to bring the medic, and she was still playing 10 minutes after that. Why didn't the officials step in before the changeover? She's only a teenager, physically she is at her limit at this level.

I'm amazed no one is mentioning the bubble situation as an issue. Even well established players are struggling with it.

Who knows what happened . But scheduling her last match was a terrible decision and totally unfair to both players. The committee who do the scheduling should be ashamed .

Hopefully she's ok, it was a lot to deal with and it would have all caught up with her after losing the set. If she'd won it she may have been able to keep digging and carry on. But very sad she couldn't even return to court.

But I don't think you can blame age, she's not even the youngest player in the final 16, but she was the most inexperienced, I think that's what has undone her here. The magnitude of what it takes to keep this up mentally and physically at this level. And the pressure. Hopefully she can grow from this, she's a phenomenal talent.

Yes. I don't think the officials should have stepped in.

But I quite agree that the AELTC part shot themselves in the foot by putting it on so late.

It's really difficult to get your eating right. The stress just mounts and mounts. You're part worried even about the match the next day.

The roof being shut makes it oppressive and noisy.

The main thing, though, is that she's OK......

I can't help feeling that the scheduling of this match was a huge disadvantage to Emma. Having to hang around all day waiting for this match much have ramped up the pressure enormously. It would have been much better if she's been on Court 2 at 11am with the core GB fans there supporting her. I really hope she's ok.

I hadn't seen your post when I wrote mine. I completely agree with what you say. I think they were more interested in maximising tv viewers than considering the welfare of the players
