Eva Shaw

Maybe in two years time, Eva will have 'fizzled' and become one of our many decent college level players, but nothing more. Which is fine and there's nothing wrong with that .....

BUT it's just possible that tomorrow (first round of qualis at Wimbly) will be a sea change sort of day. And it seems to me we should have a thread ready, indeed maybe to kickstart the rest of her tennis career.

(I know there's a rag to riches thread, just for Wimbly itself, but I'm hoping this might be an ongoing thread - and anyway, there's no harm in having lots of individual player threads - some will sink to the bottom of the pile, but that's life)

So Eva Shaw is born 2005, has just done the double, in winning the U16 National Championships AND the U18 National Championships.

She's currently JWR 131, with a CH JWR of 85

Quite tall, athletic build girl. Decent serve. Strong groundshots. Moves reasonably well.

Came pretty close to beating Storm Sanders in adult singles last week at the 100k in Notts.

Currently at Loughborough Universitys National Tennis Academy

Wishing her all the best for her Wimbly baptism tomorrow

Not all hopefuls ever get to play pro tennis. Eva has done well at J3/4 events but is strggling at grade 1/A. Seems to be a tryer, steadily improving her results.

The next 2 weeks are unimportant - keeping improving is what will count in the longer term.

Good luck to her smile

Ouch to nothing more.........! A few college players do end up being 'more'

Of course they do.
But she might be one of those who 'only' end up at college level.
Which is also absolutely fine.

There is an article about Rising British Star Eva Shaw in the Wimbledon edition of the Radio Times.

Absolutely nothing wrong with being a decent college tennis player but I completely get CDs sentiment and Eva has the potential to be a bit more than that hence the thread. Playing college tennis in isolation is not enough to have a any chance of being a bit more you have to be doing a bit more ideally with some simultaneous challenger level success by the end. The golden chalice being a top 100 singles player. So more a pint half full thread.

It's been a great year for Eva on the domestic side of things. I didn't realise she had been injured these past 2-3 months, as per her post final interview on the LTA Competitions Twitter page. Hopefully we get to see her in a couple of smaller ITF events next year.

Yes, she retired in her first round match in the J1 Serbia in August and was out of action after that.

I'm sure she'll be in the 25ks coming up, no?

If she is funded, she will get a wildcard.

Sonay has confirmed she will be playing and will get one. I'm not too sure that many other Brits will turn up.

Eva is commentating for the U18 National Championship finals

She says she has a major, ongoing wrist injury

It started back in August last year. She says it sort of got better for a month and then came roaring back.

At the moment, she can't even hit a ball. And is just doing gym and aerobic work

Wishing you all the best, Eva !

Just to bring this to the top - with smiles that Eva has managed to play in two events this year, 2023.

Do hope it's all a thing of the past, Eva, and it's onwards and upwards from here on

According to Parsa Bombs' instagram page, Eva Shaw has verbally committed to Florida State University (FSU) following her official visit last week and will join the Noles in the Spring of 2024. Fellow Brits Millie Bissett and Victoria Allen are on the team
