On a personal note, such a shame this isnt Ilkley as it should be this week

Hopefully you get it back next year.

Certainly hope so and no reason why not! Meanwhile lets hope this week continues. Looks like 7 British doubles players in action here today, no singles on the schedule however

Good stuff from Jay, Anton and Aidan today. The latter two do seem to have picked up some form in recent weeks with a futures win each but this was probably quite unexpected and all the more brilliant for it!

Anton hasn't been playing on the circuit, he has played 3 pro series winning 2 and losing finalist in the 3rd so form was there but not on show. Aidan has had some shockers but suddenly clicked and has had some super results, same with Jay.  Shows how detrimental losing the grass season was last year.

Anton played a couple of weeks of the ITF circuit in Finland and won the 15k in Kouvala at the end of May.

I know but the comment was that he had picked up some form in the last few weeks, that applies to Jay and Aidan who have had a pretty bad run of things but not to Anton as he rejoined the tour and won immediately so his form hasn't picked up but he has hit the ground running

It's probably just the problem of a message board, brittak, nothing personal, things get a bit lost in translation, so to speak, without nuance and tone.

Dont do a jonh its not worth it- and youll have Indy and CD to answer to!

seriously, I agree - Anton did well in uk pro league but it is evident that not many Brits are up to world standard IMO in general terms and he was clearly ahead of the pack. So form was hard to gauge. He came good in Finland but it has been a while and I believe he is coming back to form and welcome it is. Aidan has also gradually battled up to a level of consistency and Jay has been well off form and his win is welcome.

lets hope all 3 can produce more as well as Dan, cam, Andy , Liam etc . its been a good early week for the mens players after Jo Konta last week and great to see some success.

I'm being a word pedantic here but please tell me when Anton was out of form, here's his activity from March 2020 www.itftennis.com/en/players/anton-matusevich/800373940/gbr/mt/s/activity/. He played 3 tournaments in 15 months plus pro series and I don't see a period where he was 'out of form' I see a period where he didn't play at all. Jay and Aidan hit a bad period where they really struggled to win, Aidan certainly found some form suddenly and so far it doesn't appear to be a flash in the pan, which is excellent,, jury is still out on Jay but certainly looking a lot better, Anton didn't play any matches so the next few weeks will certainly give an idea of where he is. Using a phrase 'picked up form' suggests that he had been playing but not getting results which isn't the case.

I guess the main thing is we have 7 men across both events this week on grass in last 16, which is promising - one win doesnt make a summer and we need to see it backed up but promising nonetheless

Cracking First set tie break by Anton, to take it 11-9 or 12-10, lost count.....

Another super match.

Good aggression but controlled too.

He deserved that win.

Well done, Anton.

This boy has talent! Enjoyed that - surely now guaranteed a QWC for Wimbledon.

Yay Anton again

Live rankings has him now as live 453, almost 100 places up on his current WR/CH 547

Exciting as to what he might achieve in the future if now much more fully focussed on his tennis.

As it is this week, there surely must be some stage when he becomes a contender for an upgrade to one of those "TBA" Wimbledon MD WC spots.

I'm sure i've read somewhere on these boards that he is studying for a degree but doing it remotely. So probably won't be fully focussed on tennis.
