Week 23 - ITF M15 - Heraklion, Greece (hard)

Yes, you're right, Martin has a Junior Reserved place in the MD, he's not a qualifier.

He's 19, I think, so not a junior this year, but got up to top 20 (in juniors).

But SC's point is right about it being a reasonably favourable draw.

L16:  (Q) William Griffith (USA) WR 1362 (CH = 636 in December 2018) vs Julian Cash WR 1146

Griffith beat the German seventh seed, Möller, by 4 & 4 in his match.

L16:  (Q) Matas Vasilauskas (LTU) UNR vs Billy Harris WR 715

They could hardly have arranged that better:  three through to the last 16 & they all face qualifiers!  smile

 Ir appears Giles is playing DA Martin Breysach WR 1277 from France who beat Guberman yesterday rather comfortably.

My mistake.    Not sure how it happened.  Correct details now inserted.

Shame for Julian not to make it into a third set.

But with Billy and Giles in the quarters, it's pretty nice on Heraklion at the moment.

Billy Harris WR 715 Def (Q) William Griffith (USA) WR 1362 6-2 7-6, thought he was going to end up going the distance again but seems to have found the ability to finish the job

Yes, I was surprised to see he'd won that tie breaker!

And, after Steven tweeted Giles' second win, going from 0 to 2 ATP points in just over 24 hours, this was Giles' response to Steven

@gileshussey

Not done yet.

And he's currently 5-3 up !

 Took the 1st set 6-3 but then went an immediate break down at the start of the 2nd set. Hopefully he can immediatey break back.  I'm going on record here that if he wins this match I'm nominating him for POM. There'll be other higher achievements but for me POM is about exceeding expectations no matter the level not just matching them.

Come on Billy. Get yourself a title so that I can nominate you in JonH's POTM poll.
