Tough draws for all three Brits involved in the first junior Grand Slam of 2021. Jack Pinnington Jones plays one of the highest ranked unseeded players, who pushed him earlier in the year. Lu Maxtedi has the French 9th seed, while Matilda Mutavdzic draws the second seed, and Roland Garros semi-finalist back in October. All 3 opponents are ATP/WTA ranked.
Juncheng Shang (who pushed Liam Broady in Miami qualifying) and the well-known Andorran Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva are the top seeds
Boys R1 (L64)
(9) Sean Cuenin (FRA) v Lui Maxted
Maks Kasnikowski (POL) v (4) Jack Pinnington Jones
Lui was under pressure on serve early on, and eventually was broken in the 6th game. He broke back when Cuenin served for the set, only to lose his serve next game. First set to Cuenin 6-4
Lui had break chances early on in set 2, but couldn't convert, lost his own serve and went on to lose the match 6-4 6-3
Lui will be joining TCU in the fall, probably as very smart move for him. Assume he is fairly academic too - if my memory is correct, his brother Kai studied Chemistry at UCL
In doubles Jack is top seeded with an Estonian partner, while Matilda has a strong partner, who won the Brazilian Grade A doubles event earlier this year.
