Week 23 - WTA 250 - Viking Open, Nottingham (grass)

Thanks for providing the link Ace; I have finally come to Katie B's match, albeit a lot later than planned.

No worries Andy. I'm pleased it's there, and it's certainly better than casting a betting stream to my telly, but a little disappointing that there's no comms for some reason, unlike the centre court stream. I'm WFH so it's more on in the background, so would have been a lot more useful with a play by play commentator.

Katie misses 4 break points at 4-2* in the second. A little bit tentative and pushy on them for my liking, she's winning this by being focused and aggressive, can't start retreating now. Overall a good standard of tennis though, nice match.

6-4 *4-3

Wins the last 8 points. A very assured performance, very impressive. Attacked but was within herself, sensible shot making, not taking silly risks. Well done!

6-4 6-3

Confident win for Katie B - hopefully she can go even further. Good rankings points gained too. A match up with Heather or Tara will be interesting too. One Brit at least assured to make the Quarter Finals anyway.

That guarantees us a British QF and I rather suspect it will be Katie.

The OOP is a bit strange here today, we are now left with long gaps in two courts caused by putting players third on for singles who have doubles (one of whom, Davis, hasn't even stepped on court yet), when there was no reason they couldn't have opened play or been on second.

Great win. Bit of a shame that two current top 100 wins only translates to 30 ranking points, but a massive step in the right direction, and hopefully she can go even further (sorry other Brits).

Katie B will take the below half draw and all the way to final. So far she is my favourite

forgive my typing as my keyboard is playing up... the bbc has the top 5 rallies from the dart versus raducanu match on the website. i had a quick look and one thing that struck me was that raducanu really lacked any real punch on her shots. the forehand in particular was not at all attacking , one or two shots she could have put away and didnt. her style is nice, but lacked power. dart also played the 5 rallies a lot smarter than emma it seemed to me.

it is just 5 rallies of course so may be completely false impression

Harriet wastes a couple of break points with poor play after a good start. She goes down 0-40, gets it back to deuce, saves two more, misses a game point, saves another break point. Holds!

2-1*

I've noticed Katie is much more on it from the start these days. Pre back injury she seemed to give her opponents a head start, not anymore.

Harriet is clinging on for dear life in her service games, but fighting hard and returning well.

6-1 0-0*

I thought Katie's defensive play was the best I've seen it too. Good serving, in every point, striking the ball well. The dropshots need some work and I'd love to see her into the net more but otherwise a very good performance.

Davis doesn't look comfortable. Harriet shouldn't have any problems if she doesn't try to do too much

Davis has trainer out - checking pulse, blood pressure etc...
