Suspected match fixing in the women's doubles: mobile.twitter.com/EmGryn/status/1400737611988312067

related to last years event though rather than fixing this year,  not that it matters. It was for a match she played with madison brengle in doubles

Has Bogdan ever played as well as right now?

Annoyingly, probably not. She was superb in the first set, and a break point saving machine in the 2nd. Into a decider, so all to play for.

Saved 5/6 in the first set and 9/11 in the second. Tremendous match.

Don't think I've ever been so invested in a player before. Her title odds probably need to be reigned in a bit from here, but just so chuffed that she is through and has matched her performance from last October. Match point saved as well. Unlucky for Bogdan, she was playing well above her ranking, and the 2nd set was phenomenal from both.

She'll need that day off.

Badosa gets it done.

Just caught it near the end but looked a great effort by both. Bogban would no doubt like that shot she played on the second last point back again.

There'll probably be an alt in Nottm qualifying now, as Badosa was still in the draw by the time qual draw came out.

Bottom half L16 :

(7) S Williams vs (21) Rybakina
(15) Azarenka vs (31) Pavlyuchenkova
Zidansek vs Cirstea
(20) Vondrousova vs (33) Badosa

For me the stand out match of the women's tournament so far. The level of tennis in the first two sets was just so high. I think Bogdan basically cramped at the end and couldn't really see the match out but the intensity and quality of shot making form both women was outstanding. Badosa showed real mental toughness to come through that.

Her bit of the draw is wide open but Serena will take some shifting. She must really fancy her chances now.

Yep, by far the best match I have seen thus far, although it was quite hard to watch at times. I don't think there's been too many standout matches mind, at least not on some of the bigger courts that will get more (TV / stream) eyes on them.

Absolutely regarding Badosa's mental side, that's something that has been questioned before, but she showed it in spades there, and you could tell how much she wants it. What a seriously amazing run she has been on these past few months.

She would have been automatically withdrawn at the qualifying sign in deadline.

Someone (normally in the know) mentioned that on TF, but I wasn't sure - the likes of Rybakina, Kostyuk, Hercog etc. all withdrew themselves earlier in the day, but I thought they might have had until Sunday or something, especially with the byes. I assume Collins (who is now out of RG) is out of Nottingham as well?

Not that I'm bothered, but going to be a pretty weak draw generally, could be a chance for a GB player or two to get something going. Watson could well end up a seed.

What does everyone think of who is going to get through in the bottom half?

My guesses are Azarenka, Serena, Cristea and Vondrousova to make the quarter finals and of those four I think Azarenka is the most likely finalist.

Badosa did do well against Bogdan today in a great match and her tussle against Vondrousova looks the most exciting of the four last 16 bottom half matches for me.

I was very impressed with Vondrousova against Hercog today - it was a very high class and competitive match. I know that Cristea is on fine form, but I have a feeling that if she met Vondrousova in the Quarters that Vondrousova might shade it. I should also add that I know very little about Zidansek and have yet to see her play.

At one stage the bottom half looked to be heading for absolute carnage, in terms of how many leading players have gone out, but now there are still quite a few quality players left.

Anyway what does everyone else think?

I'm a pretty terrible pundit so your guess is probably as good as mine. There are quite a few questions though that may affect things.

Will Badosa be able to recover physically and mentally to face Vondrousova?

Is the strapping on Serena's leg significant or more just precaution?

Will Azarenka's back hold up?

Will Cristea be able to keep up the level of consistency required to take out a player as good as Williams?

Zadansek has been playing pretty well and could easily win against Cristea.

I think Serena will simply blow Rybakina away as Rybakina's movement is really not that great for top level clay court tennis in my opinion.

Personally I think Serena might, completely against the clay form book, win the whole thing. Her serve level yesterday was unplayable at times. Of those left, in the this half, I think only Azarenka has the court prescence and mental belief to be able to beat Serena.
