I think Mike Dickson of the Daily Mail is seeing the end in sight as he wrote "There was a distinct late career look to Konta and Watson,30 and 29 respectively ."
Kvitova has pulled out after being injured in the press conference - I have been warning how difficult the conferences are for players, but I hadn't realised players were actually being injured in them.
Joking aside, that makes an unlikely last 32 spot for Elena Vesnina.

Oh, that's dreadful.
Although, yes, there is a slightly amusing irony - what timing
I'm stuck on a bus that just isn't moving, crook knee so can't walk, listening to 5Live and if Naomi Cavaday says 'swinging leftie' one more time I might just have a bit of a turn.
I'm really saddened that Osaka's obvious distress was handled so poorly by all concerned. What does worry me very much, not just with young sports people, is that with all the management, PR, coaches, family, staff and advisors this happened. But when so many people's livelihoods rely on one person turning up and earning the dollars it can be very easy to forget there is an individual bringing home the bacon for a raft of 'hangers on. I hope this resolves in the very best way for her, because I'm certain this wasn't the way for her to get the outcome she needs.
Sad to see Petra out, and Barty was quite cagey about her fitness. So the women's draw feels very fragile at the moment.

This is Naomis problem in a nutshell, she strikes me as very immature and I suspect she has been badly misled by people that she believes have her best interests at heart. Much easier to lash out at faceless journalists than look closer to home for the root of her problems

It was close, and she had her chances, but the level wasn't there when she needed it. Second serve in particular was so shaky. But she did fight like crazy the entire time which is a big step up from recent Tour matches where she has looked very flat.
Hopefully something better comes from the grass. She needs some wins to be sure of making the Olympics if they go ahead
What's the latest Paul? Is there an easy chart anywhere? The last update I saw was on TF about 3 weeks when Golubic was just about to pass her, and her entry looked very much touch and go.
Going back to this, OER has a race to Tokyo which, even with them wrongly dropping s'hertogenbosch, Heather is currently 3 places and 64 points short of qualifying for Tokyo.
It does feel very strange that not even through the first round, for a variety of reasons, the following are no longer involved
Osaka, Halep (I know), Muguruza, Andreescu, Kvitova.
That's a heck of a proportion of my main top end interest and support gone
Mine too Indy - some very watchable and interesting, higher profile players gone, just like that.
I have been on board the Badosa train since Charleston 1, fully fledged since Madrid, and was a combination of surprised, excited, and a little nervous, to see her as little as 9/1 at Paddy Power (and Betfair given their links) to lift the title (4th fave at most places), and as little as 2/1 (Boylesport) to reach the semi final (now Osaka is out) - all seems very surreal, given where she was only a few months ago, but I'd love that personally, although realise it would generally be considered a random, and possibly underwhelming winner, if she did pull it off.
I did have a few quid on her at 66/1 during Madrid, so that helps as well a little , but she'll no doubt crash out against either Kovinic or Bogdan in the next round or two, now that the pressure and expectation will intensify even more. .
There's others players besides her that I'd like to see to well, but the event does certainly feel a bit strange at the moment.

So with Osaka, Kvitova,Halep,Mugruza, Adreescu , plus Jo & Heather out on the UK front. And Barty limping, what do you think Ace & Indy ?
I'm still seeing Swiatek with a chance to take this on and make it a second. Unconvinced by Serena but I've been here and wrong before.
I think Swiatek too Armchair. Her draw did initially look tough, but has opened up a little with Mugu going out, but she obviously has the experience of last year, and is playing well.
It would be mightily impressive for someone who has just turned 20 to defend their first slam (especially being 40/50 when she won the title 8 months ago), but definitely leaning towards her at the moment.
