The effects (and those hoping for better weather perhaps) of the WTA downgrade of Birmingham? Entry list for Berlin includes Kvitova and Muguruza, as well as Barty all of whom I saw play in Birmingham a few years back.

And here is Birmingham:

Heather will be 71, so I assume she will be a fairly high alt.

8 of the top 10, 15 of the top 20?! Birmingham to be fair never got near that , I am sure Im correct in that?

It had Mallorca W250 competing alongside it, which would be a lot more attractive than Birmingham W250 competing against the German W500.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Mallorca_Open
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_Mallorca_Open

Had a fair few top 12/13 players in recent years.

But yes, that's a very very strong initial list - whether it actually materalises with it coming so soon after RG, rather than the usual one week break, is another question though.

So here is the queens entry

www.dartsrankings.com/tennis/queens

And it is a lot weaker than usual. Just two top 10 entries. Berretini is top. Andy has a wildcard confirmed, Dan and cam in there.

Halle has 9 of the top 20 versus 5 for queens.

Maybe djoko or nadal will ask for a wildcard after France ?

Thiem and Tsitsipas as well as djoko and Rafa arent entered yet in either event so presumably all could be targeted for a wild card.

Eastbourne the following week could also get lucky and pick up some players from the top end in this shortened grass gap from Paris to Wimbledon.

Given Andy, Dan and cam are all in the main draw and there are the players listed above plus those like Dimitrov and isner not entered in either event, suspect we will see all the wildcards left go to big names and Brits will get wildcards into qualies.

Which is fine.

The Ilkley Challenger @ Nottingham, Nottingham Trophy it is called this year has a potentially cracking entry.

Much better than the first weeks field

www.dartsrankings.com/tennis/nottingham-2

Sadly no Brits in , presumably Andy and Liam plan to be at Queens. But no doubt we will have some wild cards awarded in due course

I'm sure Tsitsipas would take a WC if he could get one for the Doubles as well with a partner of his choice....

I notice he has dropped down to the ITF M15 this week in Heraklion

The exho at The Boodles has been covid-cancelled so I wonder if some top players will suddenly receive a WC...
