Sophie Chang up first for Katie:
www.tennisexplorer.com/player/chang-3fbbc/

She beat fairly recent former top 60 player Lapko in R1, who has had a torrid last few years.

Jodie's opponents have gone into a decider - could be Sofia S, or the young 2019 US Open Jr runner up who beat Naiktha, but lost to Katie B on the green clay in recent weeks. Sofia *2-1 up.

do itf w25 level events normally have byes - seems unusual and i am sure there must be more players out there who could have taken the spots...

Sofia must have wrapped those last 4 games fairly quickly.

You'd hope for 2 wins, but I'd probably take one if offered, given the past few weeks. TA would probably be hoping it was Katie to prevail in that potential situation.

48 player draw, so 16 R1 byes. There were a lot in qualifying as well. There's been a few of these to emerge in recent weeks.

Not usually, but this one is a 48 draw rather than 32. There was full 32 qualifying as well

The ITF site hasn't been updated, but sofascore shows Katie Swan v Sophie Chang is cancelled, and Chang is actually playing Tiphanie Fiquet (LL) at this moment.

Another withdrawal cry  hmm

Shame about Katie.

Jodie is a set up, but a break down. 6-2 *0-2.

There was a MTO at 5-2*(no idea who for), then Jodie broke to live to take the set. Either Jodie's level has dropped slightly, or Sofia has upped her game. Jodie holds for 1-2*

Just hitting poor form at a very unfortunate time.

Sofia is obviously more well known on this forum, and probably better than her current 400+ ranking, but she hasn't been great this year, barely beaten any of the top 800 players she's played, clear betting favourite again, so it's another poor result.

Guess it's a case of wait and see if she can sneak into RG quals, which would be a fantastic experience for her, if nothing else, but hopefully she can have a bit more joy on the grass. A few more successive defeats and it could well affect her Wimbledon WC hopes.

Of course, there was no stream, and if it was Jodie that had the MTO and was struggling a fair bit then it is obviously pretty unfortunate, but still a shame the way her last few events have gone especially so close to the grass season, and even the WTA WC pecking order.
