The redrawing of UK political map

With all of this talk of the labour red wall falling down, in 2019 general election, and the Hartlepool by-election win for the Tories was the latest example of this.

Are we really surprised.

Populist leaders, like Trump, Le Pen and also Boris, appeal to the lowest common denominator, as they are taken in by their rubbish. It is no surprise therefore that most uneducated, worst roughest parts of the UK are seeing major swings to Tory, despite being labour heartlands for 50 years. Hartlepool, Grimsby etc and many more to follow.

The reverse of this is not reported though. The home counties, Surrey, Kent and many more, places that were really happy to vote for soft tories like Cameron, do not connect with Boris.  People in Surrey and Hertfordshire, are very wealthy, but also very educated, and see through Boris bull**** and are moving away from voting Tory. Moreover, the old grannies in Surrey that would vote Tory staunchly, are dying of old age and being replaced by forward thinking younger people in these areas.  See good gains for Lib Dems and Labour in the south east.

A complete reverse of the UK political map, who would have thought it.

This is spot on Vandie, but unfortunately the opposition doesn't seem to have worked this out. At the moment it's a waste of time trying to win back the red wall seats where many voters choose to ignore the truth even when it's staring them in the face. What Starmer should be doing is creating a party that appeals to decent honest human beings of all "classes" who detest the lies and cronyism of the current government and want to vote for a party which stands for integrity honesty and a caring society.

Indeed. I'd like to see an election again where I can vote positively for a party rather than deciding who is the least anathema to vote for. Current Tories, SNP, nope, but a moderate caring effective Labour Party?

It has become Lib Dem of late but they really need to sort themselves out to have any real relevance, and that 2019 proposal to override the people"s Brexit vote without a further vote was a moral and tactical disaster, much as I have always been against Brexit.

In the latest Scottish Parliament elections, Labour who used to so rule the roost in Scotland have again come 3rd behind not just the SNP but also the Tories ( who gain votes from a large section of the unionist population as long as there is a possibility of another independence referendum ). So certainly up here Labour continues to need to connect more with people and be seen as truly relevant.

Voting is still Brexit related. Hartlepool was a prime example, although other factors in the region including failings in services were the root cause.
