Week 18 - ITF (W25) Naples, USA Clay

I am assuming that Katie's ranking will be close to the cut off point for the French Open qualifying. None of our players perform brilliantly on clay, but there are a lot of ranking points there, and for the likes of Fran, Katie B, Katie S, Naiktha, Jodie B, the big opportunity to win a few matches and jump up the rankings. Hope they all make it in to the draw and do well. Katie S missed the Aussie qualifying for 2021 by one place, if you remember, with no withdrawals in the last 48 hours before qualifying started - she must have been so frustrated. left sitting there as first alternate.

I feel that Katie S is at the crossroads of her career right now. As a junior, her results were superb, especially in the Juniors at Wimbledon, but despite a good start to her professional career, her momentum has well and truly stalled. She has had much documented feelings of worthlessness when she loses and I hope that she is through that, but if you do have demons like that, the best thing is to make sure that you are playing numerous tournaments, so that each win and loss is therefore much less important and lacks the significance it does when you are entered for just a few events.

Hopefully Katie S is just a tournament or two away from recapturing her form of February. At the very least, all those points gained, will stop her sliding down the rankings for a long while, so there is still time this season to regroup, both get back that form and move up the rankings. Hope so anyway, but I am concerned for her, right now.

I think Katie S has the potential to be a top 100 player, no question, but potential and what actually happens are two very different things.
