Week 18 - ITF (W100) Charleston, USA Clay

She's actually just underway now. Liu serving first.

So far so competitive, thought Liu would run a away with it based on form and the tough matches Harriet has had but hanging in there and has BP for 5*-4

Yes, absolutely. She was 2-4 down, but it's all been pretty close.

Playing pretty well.....

Harriet seems pretty keen to keep moving, not waiting for time to be called on any of the change of ends.

Nice deep ground shots, pushing Claire to make errors.

Lovely set

Shame to lose but good week for Harriet. Just Jodie in doubles left now.

Overall a good week, pretty evenly matched but those long matches caught up with Harriet. She needs to land those 1st serves to give herself a chance

Very good week for her. I'd have certainly taken a SF as unseeded player at the start of the week.

So one more go on the green stuff before RG quals?

How many will we have in the RG qualies, Ace. Saves me on a long internet search - I am sure you know.

Good week for Harriet - she is moving upwards in the rankings and doing well. Great news.

Injuries permitting - Harriet, Fran, Sam on the Q list. Jodie possibly (after French MDWCs and other possible withdrawals), Katie S less likely, and pretty much no chance for Katie B or Naiktha I would have thought.

Thanks Ace, I was wondering about Jodie, Naiktha, Katie S and Katie B - they are all close to the cut off point and I haven't seen anything official online about either the main draw list or qualifying list. I know they take rankings from quite a bit back (which won't help Katie B at all, but probably doesn't make much difference to the others). I don't know if Katie B  will use her injury freebie entry for this, or even if it is still valid. She seems to have been using it for ages, so I am guessing it is running out soon or already has done.

Harriet and Fran are both playing well enough to have some chance of qualifying, if they get a kind draw - not seen much of Sam lately.

Yeah, last I saw a couple of days ago, Jodie was 13 out, Katie S was 21 out. I'm sure Naiktha has had some sort of PR of circa 240 recently, but she's not on the main Q alt list (so presumably not using it, if she still has one), and there are at least 25 players ahead of both her and Katie B.

There are 4 French players above Jodie and Katie S in the list (Dodin, Tan, Burel, and Paquet) who should all be serious MDWC contenders, and all pretty likely to get one IMO, so that could/would knock 4 places off both of them, and IF they did go back to the reciprocal agreement, then there would likely be an Aussie and American to come out as well, unless they went for a really young player ranked lower than our players, but if you had 4-6 to come for WC purposes, Jodie would be 7 or so out, and could feasibly get in with late main draw, or Q draw withdrawals, probably asking too much for Katie S, and no chance for Katie B or Naiktha as there are at least 25 players above them currently, so not going to happen.

Katie B has used all her PRs, so you can't help but feel it's an absolutely massive grass season coming up for her, which are effectively a new batch of PRs for her, but if it doesn't go well, and she's circa 250 at 25 year old, then it won't be easy to get back in the top 100, at least short term anyway, and then you could be looking at 27 or so, and a hell of a lot of good years passing her by in terms of slam appearances, endorsements, attention etc. which looked inevitably in early 2019, pre Fed Cup, as a 22 year old.

I got my info from here:
