There's a Premier event at Sutton next week. Always a good one to go and watch if you are in the area and is a friendly club that welcomes visitors. The event usually has a few ranked players, although not as good as it used to be. The full list of players is here

https://competitions.lta.org.uk/sport/players.aspx?id=3b6130b4-bf54-460d-8fd6-78ef6a51a1c9

Many names from the UKPro Series

Yes, like this event - never really get to go down and see it as not around - but it's a high profile one and big prizes, with good sponsors:

PrizesTotal prize money pot £14.3k. Enhanced Premier Tier prize money through sponsorship by Boadicea & club partners. Singles winner £2k / RUP £1k / SF £750 / QF £500 / Doubles £500 per pair / Mixed doubles £300 per pair

At Sutton the qualifying draws are 64 for 8 places, and take place Sunday to Tuesday. The draws aren't full, 60 entrants for the men and 39 entrants for the women, but still a big entry. 165 on the entry list, so about 18 no-shows in total.

It's been a few years since I last went, but on that day Jay Clarke, Dan Smethurst, Katy Dunne, Beth Grey and Eleanor Dean were amongst the players.

Edit:- Years not tears !!

Prize money is always good and I dont think there are enough opportunities to play doubles, so nice its included. Many of the college players who would have entered this tournament have already returned to the US to prepare for the start of Fall Semester

Six lucky losers in the women's draw for the ultra rich Premier event in Sutton.

It's not a great standard. Usually far higher.

However, if that's because our players are off doing ITFs, then that's good, I guess.

And big money for the others.

(Men is far better)

Yes, pretty well everyone ranked above Eliz is either playing or in between tournaments and out of the country - or injured. Not sure about Jodie (she's in London), or Alice Gillan.

And surprised some of our top juniors or 18 year-olds, say, aren't there. Like Grace Piper etc. Maybe most are already off the US for college?
