Unfortunate news on the injury to Harriet.

But huge positive with the way Katie B is playing right now. As others have said her ranking is surely only going to improve quite quickly with no points to defend. She really does look the best prospect of the crop of GB players around her age.
Clearly has the game to be a top 100 player injury/illness permitting.

I think Harriet has had issues with her groin previously, fingers crossed it was just a twinge and a precautionary withdrawal owing to timing with the grass court coming up.

Wang is only 19, so is probably better than her ranking.

Looking at her results recently, I'd say probably ranked about right, she hasn't beaten anyone much better than her and she hasn't pushed them either.  Katie should have too much for her.

Katie B closes out the second set 6-3 - a routine win; her opponent didn't really threaten her much and Katie seemed to lose concentration at times and drift through to a relatively easy win. Nice to see Katie dominating opponents so much, at this level.

Katie has a different view
"[The wind affected] a mixture of things," Boulter said. "It was really difficult to keep the ball in play off her serve. She had a great serve. It was difficult to return.

"It was a tough match. I'm just glad to have gotten through."

I wrote about the match as I watched the match and was struck by how many errors Alycia was making - numerous relatively easy shots ending up hitting the net and not many positively won points.

Katie B had lots of chances to break more than she did and to make the score more one sided than it was, but she seemed a little under par and no doubt under-whelmed by the opposition. The wind would explain why there were so many errors and why the match was a poor one though. It wasn't apparent, watching the match, that the wind was a factor though. I think though, that Katie B was being kind and gracious to her young opponent, which is always good to see.

Liu has just beaten Vickery in straights in the first SF, so Katie should be on in the next 10 or so.

Seems to be running about three points behind the scoreboard on sofascore though

Edit - I reloaded the page, and it caught up !

Just to note, Wang had a junior career high of 2 in October 2018, so still transitioning to the main tour.

Certainly though played plenty seniors. She currently has 34 WTA scores which is a lot even alllowing for the extra scores still counting for players due to covid. So her ranking based on 'best 16' , and lowest non mandatory counter of 21, is indeed probably a fair reflection of her results so far, though of course she should be getting steadily better at her age.

Katie just has 18 WTA scores so inevitably has a number of low counters in her 'best 16' including three '1's before this week.
