Week 17 - ITF (W25) Oeiras, Portugal Clay

Emily Webley-Smith, winning 3 hour clay court grinds at 36. Phenomenal. Just makes you smile, doesn't it? Her dedication to herself and her sport never ceases to amaze me. If only there were more like her running the game in this country.

Fantastic - under the temporary system, think she gets 8 points for that!

Only 3, as this is a 48 player draw. It's 8 points for making the round of 16 (so second round usually, but third round here).

The Portuguese wild card pair of Matilde Jorge (who partnered Sashi Kempster last week) and Ana Filipa Santos have just put out the second seeds Conny Perron and Jesika Maleckova.

Beth and Liv are next match on that court, having been moved from court 3

I can see Heather or Jo doing it when Anne no longer wants to. I think EWS is too "out there" for LTA or whoever runs these things.

Lost first set 6-1. Got to at least 30 in all but the last game, had break point twice.
