Freya won 0-6 6-1 10-5. I was kind of pulling for Jizel in the TB, and she was pretty aggressive - a lot of those points were on her racket. Still a really good effort for her though, especially after yesterday's drubbing. Possibly better for the league that Freya got the extra point, and it'll be interesting to see how she gets on against Katarina later in the week.
Yes, Freya played solidly but she barely 'won' a point in the TB - she pushed Jizel, possibly, into going for too much, and that's part of the game. But Jizel only needed an inch or two, here or there. And maybe hawkeye......
Lissey is on the OoP for tomorrow, which I'll post later. Can't answer your other two questions though, and haven't been able to watch anything myself today.
A couple of key matches in Pool A tomorrow. I was hoping they would have put Freya vs Katarina on Court 1, but that's on Court 2, while the inevitable 45-60 blowout of Lissey (assuming she is feeling OK) vs Angelina is on Court 1. Grim.
On a side note, I'm not even sure I'm exaggerating, but has Emily ever been on Court 2? I'd imagine at least 20 of her 23 matches to date have been on the main show court with the replays, commentators and camera angles. She is one of the main players I'd like to watch, so not necessarily complaining in that respect, but she certainly gets her share.
It took me ages to realise who it was . The main commentator kept saying Emily, and I was no wiser, and then she mentioned about keeping an eye on the other pool results etc. and it finally clicked, ha.
Still annoyed they have put Freya vs Katarina on Court 2, and Lissey's 1/500 vs 20/1 match on Court 1 (later on) with all the broadcast production. I much prefer watching Court 1, but will be tuning into the Court 2 match here. Why would you prioritise such a mismatch on BT Sport, while a potential top 2 decider is buried on Court 2? Even if Freya ultimately wins comfortably, Katarina did enough yesterday to be considered a group threat. Lissey was even on Court 1 yesterday, so it's not a case of giving others a chance, and Emily has been on Court 1 about 95% of her matches anyway as mentioned.
At least we can watch all the matches I guess, but it really is like watching a match on TV vs a basic ITF stream. A huge difference to me.
Katarina takes a very tight first set 7-6(6). Thought she was going to blow that set after a couple of disappointing points at 5-4* in the TB, but she held off SP, and won the next two. Freya complained about something at 6-6, but couldn't see what about.
I was actually wanting Katarina to win that set, and probably the match, even though she's a non Brit. 75/80% of the field here are the same players week in, week out, and we are so used to matches where it's a case of how many games the underdog can nick in a given set, that it's very refreshing when a virtual unknown (at least to me), living locally, who can play, can come in, and really shake things up.
Instead of say Eliz vs Talia on match 5 where Eliz effectively just needs to show up to get her 2 points to qualify, and be off the court in 45 or so mins, it'll be much more interesting on a Friday if it was Eliz vs Katarina in a winner goes through type match. Great addition.
Glad youre excited Ace! My interest is very much a passing glance on these events. Id be really interested to see the numbers on how many people are watching each match and how it is translating into monetising it- they are paying decent money backed by sponsors and viewing figures, betting etc needs to drive that, not sure how they are doing against targets but it would be interesting to see the metrics ? Not that theyll share them but they will determine the future of this as an an annual event.
