Week 17 - UKPro League - Week 4, Loughborough (Indoor Hard)

A lot closer this week, but Eliz still prevails over Millie, 2-6 7-5 10-6 in exactly 2 hours.

I hope Lissey can find some singles form this week before going back on tour.

Well, got that wrong ..... thought Jizel might get a little closer in the score against Alice but it was over before it had begun, 6-0 6-1 to Alice

Ouch. An early exit for Millie. I thought she looked to be holding her knee a bit at the end of her match this morning. Another overseas replacement, this time a Slovakian. Not really fair on Eliz who has now dropped a point against a live opponent (I'm assuming Katarina won't be up to too much given she only seems to have played 4 matches in 6 years), but not too much they can do I guess. At least Eliz did come through that MTB, and hopefully she won't miss out on the top 2 by a point, but I suppose it is still 'in her hands', as she still has to play the likes of Freya and Alice.

Edit - seems Katarina, or 'Katie' was at US college, so she might be a typical middle of the group type player, like Emma W, although that's obviously being stereotypical biggrin. I'll be interested to see what odds she is against Alice once they are set.

Katarina Stresnakova has been at Oklahoma State University (2015-2019), which is why she doesn't feature a lot in the ITF stats. Could be a surprise !

Edit:- Found this article. Katarina had a good record playing the No 1 slot ........

Yep, was just having a quick scan of her Twitter and saw that. I wonder how many other overseas tennis players / associates are living in the UK that we are not aware of, probably loads.

That Angelina reminded me a bit of Amelia Stuart, both in terms of looks, and her results.

She seems to now be a postgraduate at Loughborough, so a handy replacement for them.

I'm surprised Ella Taylor isn't in the line up - she's also a postgrad student at Loughborough, unless she's concluded her studies already

1.44 for Alice, 2.62 for Katarina - by far the closest odds out of today's - probably because Katarina, as you say, is a bit of an unknown quantity

Hope Millie is ok.........

Just saw that before CD. I'd waited ages until last night, ha, but most betting sites were just offering odds for 4 women's matches by the time I went to bed (not Freya vs Jizel either for some reason, but those are up now too, and no doubt influenced by the latter's score yesterday). I see the retrospective odds for Alice vs Millie were 5/6 vs 5/6 (1.83 vs 1.83), so in that respect, this seems a decent replacement on paper, and looks to be the most competitive match on paper today.

If she is decent / competitive then hopefully she will get more opportunities in future editions, especially with her living locally. It's much better / more interesting (for a neutral), at least seeing fairly close odds, and I'm sure Alice will get more from it overall than playing as a 1/50, 1/100 type favourite, even if she did end up with a point or two less.

Nadia retires after losing the first set to Lissey in a tie-break. I hope this isn't going to be another week of attrition

Edit - it was Lissey who retired, not Nadia
