An insane day of tennis here in difficult conditions (clay was frozen this morning). Lots of matches going well over 2 hours, and 3 over the three hour mark.
Emily and Vivien got on court very late in the evening and have just finished, picking up their first win as a pair 7-6(3) 6-3. Broken just the once, winning the deuce point in the final game.
Great stuff

15 points for the win, but more importantly the winners of the next match get 29 points, just one less than a W25 finalist. Em needs some good counters to cover the points due to drop off over the next few weeks.
9 games went to deuce, Emily won 8 of them. That's pretty amazing, but also reinforces just how fine the margins are in doubles. Even just a couple of those going to Eden and partner totally changes the dynamic of the match.
Emily made the semis of a 100k on red clay with Sofia a couple of years back in France, but they had a first round bye. Must be a while since she won back to back matches on the devil dirt?!

Yes, although 29 SF points will have very little immediate impact for Em ( with it just replacing a 28 pointer which would otherwise have come into play ), in the medium term it could prove a bit more useful as these other points drop off. She has for instance 5 x 50 pointers from April to July 2019 all due to be halved.
Better all round though if she can turn 29 points into 48 or 80.

I think her last singles win on clay was 2015 - only seems to have played one match since then, in 2019. Similar story in doubles - the 100k in 2019 was one win, one loss. I think the last consecutive wins were in a $10k in Bucharest in September 2005, reacing the final via three wins and a walkover !
But the good news id that the WTA/ITF have increased the points for tournaments starting 05 April, so the guaranteed 28 points has become 35, and they are playing for 58 points for the final, with the winners getting 96 points.
