I think Harriet needs to be cut some slack here. The rankings are not an accurate reflection of which of them is the better player on clay. Min would be ranked far higher than Harriet on clay results. Min has a 9 titles on clay at 25K or higher since 2012 2012: Won two 25Ks and an 50K 2014: Won 25K, 50K, RU 50K and SF in 50K and WTA250 2016: Won two 25Ks 2018: Won 25K and RU 25K 2019: RU 60K, SF 25K 2020: Won 25K
Harriet meanwhile rarely plays on clay and hasn't won 2 consecutive matches on clay since 2015.
The only thing this result tells us is that she needs to gain more experience on clay, which we already knew.

It isn't about cutting some slack for Harriet for me it is more about the system of the LL.
But as to Harriet on clay there have been plenty of clay court tournaments over the past few years she could, presumably, have entered but chose not to. Maybe that is because she's no good on that surface but she will have no chance of improving if she doesn't try more often.
At least she is out there playing though which is a good thing and tough to do right now so credit to her.
The main draw is out, and there are just the eight qualifier spots, so unless there is a very late withdrawal then tournament over for Harriet
Have to say that though I have nothing personal against Harriet I really hope she doesn't get a LL spot. That would be the third this year? There really needs to be a change to this system. I'd limit it to just one per player per season. If she gets a third LL spot then she's basically being rewarded for failure. Let's face it she was comprehensively beaten by a player ranked well below her even though her opponent was she more experienced on the surface.
As I say it isn't the individual player for me, they are just playing by the rules but more the system itself. Even worse when a LL takes the place of a seeded player and gets a first round bye.

Och a little little luck and jeopardy, whoever it's for, doesn't do that much harm.
My own experience of watching was a few years back but I thought the green shale was slightly smaller stones and thus had less bite and a lower bounce. Slightly quicker. But Ive never played on it, just watched many of the old 70s and 80s events that used green clay , eg US open back in the mid 70s.
Yeah, it's supposed to be somewhere between hard and red, so Charleston is like an ideal spot in the calendar. I personally much prefer watching the likes of Charleston and all the US W80s / W100s that they have on the green stuff, than the more traditional.
Oh, and I've never played on either

To be fair, had Bertens or Petkovic withdrawn a couple of days earlier then she would have been in the main draw anyway, and at least she did get a win to put herself in to this position in the first place, as a few other seeds crashed out at the first hurdle.
Think I'd rather have landed where Wang Xinyu did, but another chance, and you can't complain.
I already know.
I'm going to email her and ask her for next week's lottery numbers because she sure has a lot of luck. Harriet certainly can't complain.
Anyone know the record for the highest number of LL spots in a season by a British tennis player? She must be in with a chance of being top of the list and we're only in April.
