Every incarnation of the WTA site seems to be worse than the previous one. You could almost think that the WTA was trying to discourage interest in the sport.
Not getting too much better in the second, *1-4. I haven't been watching with it clashing with the Newcastle match, and keeping more tabs on Fran.
Min did start the narrow favourite, and in hindsight, will be a lot more used to green clay, or clay in general, but still a disappointing score.
If it does end in defeat, then with her being the top Q seed, and reaching the FQR, perhaps she might benefit again from a spot opening up in the draw, especially with all the withdrawals that have occurred thus far.
Edit - still just the one break in the second set of course, and a quick hold to love there. 2-4*

The 8 byes does give it a bit more hope. Barty potentially thinking she's done enough after Miami, withdrawing, Harriet getting her spot, bye, then a R2 match against fellow recent numerous LL beneficiary Doi (who she has beaten not too long ago), or Schedova (who's barely won a match in about 5 years) would be the ideal scenario.
But of course, that's all if's and buts, requires a withdrawal, Harriet to get drawn out of the hat, so should just be treated an an unexpected bonus if it did happen.
The main draw is out, and there are just the eight qualifier spots, so unless there is a very late withdrawal then tournament over for Harriet
Have to say that though I have nothing personal against Harriet I really hope she doesn't get a LL spot. That would be the third this year? There really needs to be a change to this system. I'd limit it to just one per player per season. If she gets a third LL spot then she's basically being rewarded for failure. Let's face it she was comprehensively beaten by a player ranked well below her even though her opponent was she more experienced on the surface.
As I say it isn't the individual player for me, they are just playing by the rules but more the system itself. Even worse when a LL takes the place of a seeded player and gets a first round bye.

Bertens is out, so that is a seeded bye for someone, unless they rejig the draw in the meantime, and bump someone up, since the main draw hasn't started.
Vondrousova now with a bye apparently, so someone will be entering R1 as a LL. Doi did get 3 in a row earlier this year, so possibly a chance for Harriet to match that. Guess we'll find out soon.

Yes, Vondrousova is now #17 and they rejigged the draw. I've seen it on twitter, waiting for it to be updated on the WTA website. The way it has been presented it looks like LL v Q, winner to play Kvitova.
WTA Insider? 9th seed for Marketa, 17th for Bouzkova (although not massively relevant). I still hope Harriet gets it, or at least one slightly down the line, if not at the first opportunity.
I think Harriet needs to be cut some slack here. The rankings are not an accurate reflection of which of them is the better player on clay. Min would be ranked far higher than Harriet on clay results. Min has a 9 titles on clay at 25K or higher since 2012 2012: Won two 25Ks and an 50K 2014: Won 25K, 50K, RU 50K and SF in 50K and WTA250 2016: Won two 25Ks 2018: Won 25K and RU 25K 2019: RU 60K, SF 25K 2020: Won 25K
Harriet meanwhile rarely plays on clay and hasn't won 2 consecutive matches on clay since 2015.
The only thing this result tells us is that she needs to gain more experience on clay, which we already knew.
