R2: BURRAGE, Jodie Anna (GBR) 258 def ZAKARLYUK, Marianna (UKR) WC 412 6-1 7-5

QF: BURRAGE, Jodie Anna (GBR) 258 (CH=233 2019) v TALBI, Shalimar (BLR) Q 355 (CH=350 2021)

They played twice before, in Sharm El Sheikh in 2017, with Talbi winning the first time and Jodie the 2nd.

Good stuff.

It seems Talbi is still predominantly in Sharm, or the Tunisian W15 equivalent to this day, so hopefully Jodie can go a step further, and really make the points count more and push towards that invisible/possible circa 240 Wimbledon MDWC cut off. Speaking of which, Jr champ Snigur, one of 2 seeds remaining, and the highest ranked player, is a potential SF match - that would be interesting IF it happened.

L16:- Sarah Beth Grey (GBR) / Elitsa Kostova (BUL) CR752 (222+530) def Ankita Raina (IND) / Valeria Savinykh (RUS) CR251 (101+150) [1] 4-6 6-4 12-10 biggrin

Thought they were going to blow that - they led 7-1 at one point but were pegged back to 8-9

A very good win against an experienced pair. Ankita won Melbourne 4 earlier this year, and she has 22 doubles titles (Valeria has 20). Beth has 14, but at a lower level.

Jodie's match slightly delayed as the previous match has gone to a third set.
Snigur took the first set 6-2, but has lost the last 9 games in a row.

Jodie takes the first set 6-3

Beth and Elitsa are being punished for yesterday's win. They did manage to break serve at 0-5*, but the set is gone 1-6.
Only won three points on serve in the whole set, and now a MTO between the sets

Edit:- Typo in score corrected, as pointed out by christ !!

I'll have to have  a word with my club about giving me the chance to break at 0-6*

7 MPs have come and gone for Jodie at 6-3 5-1*. Talbi held and broke since, and looks on the way to holding again. Hopefully Jodie can wrap it up without it going to 5-5, you can just imagine her frustration.

*5-4, big game coming up.

Phew, 8th time lucky, holds to 30. Wins 6-3 6-4.

Decent tournament no matter what happens now, but here's hoping for more.

Edit - 3 and 4, not 4 and 3
