Week 12 - WTA1000 Miami, USA Hard

No guarantee that Harriet would have drawn her I suppose, but looks like Martincova got pretty lucky with her draw - she should be a clear favourite in her match with Shvedova:

Jo's next opponent will be Robin Montgomery or Magda Linette, she hasn't played either before.
If Katie wins her next opponent will be Elise Mertens.
If Heather wins her next opponent will be Yulia Putintseva. The record is 2-1 to Yulia.

Jo plays Linette next who beat Montgomery 6-1 3-6 6-0. One of those lob sided type of scores.

Robin Montgomery(another promising young American ) is slightly younger than Coco Gauff being born on 5th Sep. 2004 to Gauff's  13 th March 2004.

When quoting about lack of matches played by some of our players , Jo has barely played any matches since the French Open  at the end of September. She has played 4 , one of which she didn't finish. If you go back to the end of the 2019 US Open, Jo must have injury/illness  issues in more than half the matches she has  played since then. This has been reflected in her performances in that time.

Play starts at 15.00 hrs British time on Wednesday. It's all ladies matches on Katie and Heather's courts. Katie is 2nd on court 5 and Heather is 4th on the Butch Buchholz court. Approx times were given as 16.15 and 19.30 but that might be a bit early.

Yeah, Google basically add 1 hr 15 mins to each match, so that's kind of an absolute minimum start time, when you consider warm ups and what not, every match would have to finish within an hour for that to stick.

Ostapenko vs Xiyu Wang (one I'm really looking forward to as it will be big hitting, and winners and errors galore) is NB 5pm UK on Heathers court, and then there is one more after that, so could be nearer 9pm, but obviously just depends on how the previous matches go.

They are keeping us waiting. 6-5 in the third, and two and a half hours on the clock.
Basically, Pera has blown a big lead.

Just about to post similar TA. Was watching the duration of the Ostapenko first set, but Pera was 5-1 up when I last checked, pretty sure she was serving for it at that time, but just turned it over and she is now on the brink of defeat.

1st set gone 6-4 Pliskova

ETA 3 breaks to 2 so not too bad.  I always feel more positive if there have atleast been breaks of serve in a losing set.

Not a very inspiring match, neither of them are playing particularly well. First serve percentages around 50%, lots of balls going long.

Well Katie has a break but Pliskova has had BP on both the previous service games so I'm not too confident here. Having said that Katie did used to have a habit of starting slowly.

Katie is looking better now, and is 4-1*.

Hopefully she can hang on this time. I had a little bet before the match that Katie would win in three, so fingers crossed !
