Looking like Kvitova at the moment. Cornet won literally 3 points in that opening set, not one on serve. 16 mins.

 

Edit - far more competitive 2nd set (it couldn't not be), but still comfortable enough. 6-0 6-4, so Petra up next for Jo, and still no Jo-Alize meeting, as ROSAMUND pointed out.

Katie started well and went up 3-0*, Mertens was struggling but saved a couple of points for *4-0 and has now warmed up and got her game together.

She can't deal with anything that is coming to her without pace. Mertens cleverly throwing in some junk and Katie making mistakes.

Not sure it would have  made  any difference in the long run but Katie has points for a 4-0 lead in the first set

 I hope it's not as she had the same problem a couple of weeks ago and that would show a real lack of professionalism if the same thing has happened again. It's only going to be the shoes or the socks, not hard to fix

 Jo's match against Petra is on the Grandstand  court at past midnight British time  on Sunday morning. It favours Petra in not having to play in the heat of the day.
