How are Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, ME and Glandular Fever linked - are they all part of a similar thing or separate, or different names for what is effectively the same set of symptoms etc?
Yes, match fitness is a discussion point but I am much less sure about match psychology.
Even without referring again to sone recent notable comeback and hanging in examples I tend to be along CD's lines in feeling that our players are probably in general no worse than the average player at mentally getting the most out of a match given the tools and prep they have gone in with.

Interested, and forgive my ignorance
CFS was formerly known only as ME but it is a more descriptive term myalgic encephalomyelitis implied some knowledge about what was happening. People now tend to speak of CFS/ME. Glandular fever is caused, usually, by a specific virus (Epstein-Barr).

My theory has always been that CFS/ME is caused by an illness of some kind. Long covid reinforces that opinion. As we have seen with Covid, you don't necessarily have to have been that ill initially to suffer Long Covid. It makes me sound horrible as I wouldn't wish anyone to be ill but in terms of understanding and treatment of ME, Long covid is a gift, finally Drs are going to have to take it seriously. We were lucky (eventually) with my son as after 18 months toing an froing to the GP while he got worse and worse, he booked an appointment on a Friday evening and saw a newly qualified locum who spent 50 minutes with him taking a proper interest and did some research, even asking my son if he had been to Brazil as there is some pathogen in the Amazon that can cause his symptoms!! (I actually thought they'd sent him off to Hospital, he was in there so long. Previous GP appointments had ended with them trying to prescibe anti depressants.
Jo about to serve for the first set, *5-4. It's been largely comfortable holds up until that last game, especially after their respective first service games. Seems a little bit of needle between them regarding playing to the servers pace.
For however much it matters, numerically Jo's got potentially the worst of the seeds in the draw.
As 17th seed, she just missed the top 16. Then bracketed with a seed 9 to 16 and gets (9) Kvitova. Then bracketed with a seed 5 to 8 and gets (5) Svitolina. And then is bracketed wirh seeds (3) Halep for the QF and (1) Barty for the SF in the top half.
Though if that all holds up and Jo gets through it ( plus (2) Osaka in the final ) I'd be mightily surprised.
To be fair Jo probably shouldn't be seeded at all. Jo has been one of the big benefactors of the elongated ranking system. In saying that, let's hope this win kick starts her confidence and form
What an evening of tennis so far, two drama filled matches running simultaneously. I'll never be a fan, and probably shouldn't have been 2-5 down in the decider to Kuckova, but a good comeback from Barty, saving MP, and an epic match there between Sabalenka and Pironkova with the Belarussian just about coming through (also saving MP) - loads of twists and turns.
She did well to see that set out, it felt like Linette had the momentum when she broke back.
Kvitova or Cornet up next, who play later today.

It might not happen if Petra Kvitova wins, but Alize Cornet and Jo have never played each other. Remarkable considering they have both been on the circuit for years.
I watched Jo on catch up without knowing result and sort of expected her to throw in a bad service game mid way through the first and see it disappear, but if was a nice passage of play to break and she did well to recover from break points down to close it out.
Second set Linette was due a break and credit to Jo for staying steady. It was hardly vintage but it was good enough and I'm pleased for her, although Kvitova will be tough next if she comes through.
