Get in. Huge win for her for where she currently is.
I started a rant earlier but then she broke while I ws halfway through so I deleted it. Hopefully this match will go someway towards match fitness which is sadly lacking in most of the GB Women currently
Katie must have sensed your rant coming and broken on purpose to rattle your theory - well done, you, good timing !
Unfortunately, match fitness doesn't seem to help all our players - Naiktha has played tons of events and barely won a match.
Katie obviously is in a slightly different position to most, too - her chronic fatigue syndrome has to be managed in a specific way and must be quite a challenge.
But definitely great to see her chalking up a very good win - KP will not be pleased with her level, I'd have thought, in the latter half of that third set but that's life and all that
She has said that the Chronic Fatigue is no longer an issue. It's been 5 years and as I've said before that seems to be a common timeframe to fully recover if it's ayoung person that gets it. I know it was about that for my Son 17-22 years. He's now 3 years on and no sign of it reappearing.

In January this year, although she feels it's 'officially' over, she says she cannot train like everyone else or follow the same schedule. And she gave another interview too, where she said they're both still taken into account by her team.
"Im still very careful with what I do. There are certain exercises Ive categorically ruled out. But in terms of chronic fatigue I now feel like Ive officially conquered it."
Really good win. Double faults aside she did what she needed to do. Some dodgy droppers but some lovely forehands.
I really struggle watching Kris Pliskova because she's so lazy on court. Her natural technique and shot form is very free flowing and relaxed and easy (and lovely when it's on) but whenever she floats a high ball or drops a ball short she just stands there and gives up. Even if it is directed back at her (as Katie did a couple of times today) she doesn't even try. She doesn't chase down balls, which given the length of her limbs is ridiculous.
I suspect Katie will struggle against Mertens but a really good win at this level today is another step forward on her way back.

I struggle watching Kar Pliskova for exactly the same reason!

What's this chronic fatigue syndrome? I've not heard of this before, and didn't realise she had such a condition.
Times like this makes you appreciate Prime. I love the big US events and watching tennis well into the evening, and it's great just been able to flick through matches, instead of being on BT, not always on the red button, and hoping they would schedule the match you wanted.
