Week 12 - ITF (W15) Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt Hard

Yeah, difficult to know whether to be pleased that Jasmine made it so close. Or worried that Lissey was taken down to the line.

Of course, if Lissey had just held serve at 5-4 in the second, she'd have won 4&4 and it would all have been as expected. But ifs and ands and pots and pans and all that....

There's a long running thread on Tennisforum called who is the highest ranked player you have never heard of, and I think I have my answer here.

www.tennisabstract.com/cgi-bin/wplayer-classic.cgi

Having just looked her up, she's only played 5 matches since 2019 (2 wins including today against someone seemingly making their tour debut, the other someone 1100+), and the vast majority of her events seem to be in Asian W25s, where if there are no Brits involved, and most matches finish before you get up, they will naturally be less on your radar. She did win a W25 in Sept 2019, but looking at her opponents en route, it didn't seem the strongest event in the world, with 4 of the 5 wins against players 498 and beyond.

That will seem more random since there have been 2 posts since TA's, and has spanned another page (didn't want to quote as the link wouldn't work...), but that was in response to Lissey's next 311 opponent.

She'll probably still have too much for Lissey, especially with her going so long today, but I don't think it'll sound as daunting as a typical early 300 player.

Haha, and funnily enough, the last player mentioned is none other than Ya-Hsuan Lee (it's not me...)

That Bhunu has posted some decent results recently, dropping just 2 games against Jasmine last week, just 5 today against the 3rd seed, and pushed Haddad Maia 9-11 in a MTB the other week, so it will be interesting to see how Matilda gets on.

Lissey 6/5 (2.20), Lee 8/13 (1.62) for what it's worth, Matilda's match is 5/6 (1.83) each.

Interesting to see 18 year old Olivia Gadecki here after generally competing really well in her home WTA events over the Australian summer. It looks like it's her first ever event outside of Aus. It seemed strange seeing her name in the draw, but then she is currently ranked 600 odd, so exactly the type of events she needs to improve that. She took out the 4th seed today. I liked what I saw from the parts I caught (in Aus, not here...).

Jasmine had 3 separate BPs, but Lissey finally over the line on her first GP, or MP. 6-4 5-7 6-4

The 14 games prior to that final one went 5 in a row to Jasmine, 5 in a row to Lissey, 4 in a row to Jasmine.

Glad Lissey finally got a singles win although it seems to have been a topsy turvy match. Would be good to see her back in the top 500.

Alos interested to see how she does. Exactly the type of opponent that should reveal how she is progressing. I'm not expecting a win but would like to see a decent close match.

Lissey is first match on court 4 today, followed by Lily. Matilda is 3rd up, and Lissey is back for doubles in the fourth match.

Already under way, 2-6

Lissey took it to a tie-break in the second but lost.

I posted this at the end of the match, but for some reason it didn't appear.

Lissey got an early break in the second to lead 3-0, but was pulled back to 3-3 after a long game. It then went with serve, but Lee took the tie-break 7-2
