Seems Kim Clijsters has announced her next tournament will be an exho on July 25th against Sloane Stephens in the US, so presumably no Wimbledon WC for her.

Kim has said...somewhere that she will won't be playing on clay or grass and is targeting hard courts - presumably the autumn swing of tournaments, especially as they are closer to home/based in N America.

Venus Williams down to 90 on live rankings any further fall and she should require a WC

Now 101 in the live rankings, no wins, and barely any matches since the Aus Open, and a few players still in contention below her, so she could well need a WC after all.

Does anyone know if the Wimbledon cut off is based off next weeks rankings? Also does anyone know when we can expect early Nottingham entrants?

Venus had a WC into Rome - and withdrew AFTER the main draw was published, with an injury. I strongly suspect she is only carrying on because of Serena, and she still enjoys playing. Perhaps the USO will see them both retire. I'm sure she'll get a Wimbledon WC if she mises the cut, which looks highly likely.

Wimbledon should be next week. This year MD entry deadlines for WTA500/250 are 4 weeks before instead of the usual 6 weeks, so that would make Nottingham MD entry deadline 10pm today. Perhaps hear something tomorrow.

so its not been a good few weeks for our women. With very little opportunity to demonstrate form on grass before WCs are selected, I would not award MDWCs to anyone other than Harriet, Fran and Katie B.

For QWC, Jodie, Katie S, Naiktha, Emma, Matilda, 18U Junior National winner, Play-off x2 (?), overseas (not sure who?)
Don't know whats happened to Maia or Katie D but even if they were playing there isn't any room unless Jodie and KS were moved up to the main draw. So unfortunately they will miss out or have to go through the POs. I'd like to see Marni get a QWC but I don't know how you fit her in.

For Nottingham 250, if fit they would be Katie B, Harriet and Fran. QWC to Jodie, Katie S and Emma
It'll be interesting to see how WCs are allocated between Birmingham 250 and Nottingham Trophy, and in particular whether Katie B stays in Nottingham

Would you give Daria Snigur a MD WC? On the basis she won Junior Wimbly in 2019 but couldn't get offered anything in 2020 because Wimbly was cancelled?

(She obviously doesn't need a QWC as - being 206 or so - would get that anyway).

PS I'd give lots more WCs to our players. But everyone knows that, and I realise it's not very 'fair' but I follow the French approach of just 'give them and give them and give them', it's the job of the federation, who cares about journalists' sniping...... But following normal AELT approach, I think your names makes sense.

The girls have definitely struggled with not having the option of the Asian hard court swing usually available at this time of year. So I wouldn't necessarily look a poor clay results as definitive.

Venus should make the main draw after a couple of withdrawals, and I still err or giving people the chance than not. And I *hate* unused wildcards (especially in doubles where they end up going to scratch pairs entered on singles rankings who are in less need of the money).

I'd still go with

Pironkova
Harriet
Katie B
Jodie
Katie S
Fran
100k Notts winner
AN Other (Snigur, someone who does well at French or Notts WTA or something)

Sam I can't see getting one if she is even coming back.

Qualies:

Emma (I can just about see an argument for throwing her out into the Main Draw, but she'd need to have been back on court competing for a bit first)
Matilda (again, the other countries would probably give her a Main Draw wildcard as top junior)
U18 winner
Naiktha (although I'm seriously on the fence about it)
Eala (can see AELTC doing this)
2 Play Off winners
AN Other (potentially a third from play-offs)

Paul's list is good - I would use the A Nother MDWC for Ana Konjuh.

Yes, Snigur should get a MDWC along with the Nottingham Trophy winner. I won't be surprised to see Emma receive a MDWC as she would have received one by now if her education and the pandemic hadn't gotten in the way but for me, as she has not played for a while, she needs to show she can be competitive in the Nottingham 250 (not necessarily win a match given she won't be match fit at this level) and the early stages of the following week.

I'd still like to see Jodie get one, especially with being denied the chance a couple of years ago, and it would be her first W MDWC, and so then at least half of the 8 spots were going to home players, but I wouldn't complain if it was a QWC, which I suspect it might be now. I guess Nottingham (presumably QWC) would be a good chance to stake a claim, if she could qualify and get a scalp or two, as WCs are usually announced after that week.

Interesting regarding Snigur, with it being a 2 year gap since her triumph. I'd still like her to get one, as I love the fact that the girls final is usually played out in front of a huge Court 1 crowd and seems a legit big moment, as opposed to (while still a big moment) a bunch of friends and family buried in one corner at some of the other junior slam finals. If she is comfortably in quals, which she is, then I'd personally like the see her be rewarded, and Wimbledon pretty much always does award their Jr with something - QWC or MDWC, whichever is required - think it's just Zhuk in the past 13 years who hasn't been on the women's side (some were already in the main draw), and she was fairly inactive around that period anyway, but that extra year gap might play a part.

I think most of the realistic names have been covered in the past few posts, probably something like 10 competing for 8 spots, assuming Venus is 99.99% in the main draw, with Jodie and Katie S at the lower end of that list, but I guess there's still 3 or so weeks to go to make an impact, including overseas players.

Just a reminder that Emma is due to play in the British Tour event at the Connaught Club tomorrow. She should be far, far too good for the rest of the field, but it will be interesting to see how she performs on her return.
