Wimbledon 2021 WCs - women

I'd be very happy if MDWCs went to Harriet, Fran, Katie B & S, Emma, and Jodie, but I'm not sure I see GB players getting as many as 6. We did get that amount in 2018 when the landscape was generally a bit more promising, but then Claire Liu (2017 jr winner) was outside the top 250 and got a QWC, so one was saved there. I'd be surprised if the likes of Jodie and Katie S were prioritised over 2019s winner Snigur who is higher ranked and younger than both, and unlike Liu, won't need a QWC.

I suppose the less W100 events might reduce the non GB good grass performer allocation, but I'd still be pleasantly surprised if we did get as many as 6 this time. I guess as people say there is enough time for players to really stake their claim over the next 11 or so weeks, and it's obviously a huge incentive for a British player at this time of the season.

Won't effect the MDWC positions, but just saw this on TF regarding QWCs and Jr WCs (not sure if it has been mentioned more generally elsewhere):

Also on the LTA website - British Tour resumes in May and June, seven Grade 2 events (which usually means all juniors), and a note on the British Tour wild-card playoffs (information to follow unfortunately !)

Out of interest, re the British Tour events, TA, shown below - the final 4 events at Felixstowe, North Oxford, West Worthng and Frinton are all grass which is great. Are they all being played earlier than normal, I was sure I was used to Frinton and Felixstowe being late July and into August normally?

I see the Junior Nationals is in Surbiton, at the time the grass courts challenger would have been presumably...

I went to Felixstowe in May 2016 when the winners were guaranteed wild cards ito the Wimbledon WC playoffs. I think the same applied to North Oxford in 2017. Frinton was early July in 2016, so they do play at least some of them before Wimbledon. The draws around that time were pretty interesting as well !

 Junior Nationals?

Is that the daft event, normally in August, that hardly any of our best players play, and everybody who does go ends up playing in three different categories?

And does anyone know why junior wimbly is not on the ITF list? Junior RG is there. And some junior clay event up in Edinburgh in week 1 of July. But no sign of junior wimbly, unless I've missed it. (Or the J1 event at Roehampton)

ADD: But I see that the winners of the junior nationals will now get a wildcard into Wimbly qualifying.

Which is an excellent idea and one that we've touted on this board often enough.

And will make the Junior Nationals NOT be a daft event biggrin

These wildcards were planned for junior nationals last year, with the national moved to may/June to fit with wimbledon. Obviously didn't happen last year but a good idea. Also looks like players can only do one age group, which is very sensible, so under 18 will be just 2003 and 2004 born players, under 16 just 2005 and 2006 players. For the under 18 you can't imagine matilda would do the nationals, and maybe one or two others so could be opportunity for others to show what they can do.

Completely forgot about Clijsters, but yes, a very feasible options should she wish to play. I wonder if there is any more of those type of returning players who could be in contention. Pironkova got a MDWC to RG last year, and she does have a some notable results at Wimbledon, so could maybe be in contention if she is not inside the top 100 come cut off.

i cannot see six GB wild cards at the most perhaps four. ie Dart Jones Boulter and Swan the latter seems to have had a few wildcards for Wimbledon.

Wimbledon do give wild cards ro old favourites I thought perhaps Vera Zvonareva

I can, currently we have 2 that make MD, 4 that make Qualifying and Bains and Burrage are less than 10 places off at around 250.  My preference is that players get bumped up so if they are in qualifying they get MD, if they are within 128 places of qualifying so between say 240 an 370 they get qWC, then you've got Boulter to factor in
