Wimbledon 2021 WCs - women

Yes, I agree, Spireman, it's a shame not to see the other crop.

Although I remember from previous years that, in fact, not that many of the outsiders got a chance in the play-offs anyway.

I mean, by the time you've given places to all the ones with a WTA ranking who take priority as of right, there's only a couple of WC places for the playoffs to cover the others, and the faves will get those.

In fact, ingoring the wildcard play-offs, it's the 15k and 25ks that you mention that I think we're really missing - that's the perfect vehicle for all the sort of players you mention to have a whirl in qualis, or wildcards into the MD.

There's a bit of ProLeague, and British Tour, for them, but nothing with ranking points....

I haven't checked back but my memory is that while yes the play-offs had a list of DAs by ranking, there were quite a number of WCs, maybe 5 or 6 in fields of 16, including British tour and junior ranking ones. These seemed often to include quite a few juniors and I think, less so, US college players.

Whatever, they are certainly a real loss, and while I don't know how many really unlikely players have got into Wimbledon Q by this route, the Path to Wimbledon is a great idea.

Re other oplortunitues for many players, of course the LTA in their wisdom had already ditched GB 15Ks even before covid.

Yes, I think you're right, Indy.

There were quite a few wildcards, more than I remembered - I took a random year and it' 6.

But it's a great year !

You've got Dan Evans, and Cam Norrie, and Jay Clarke... - all as wildcards into the Wimbly quali play-offs

The Hutchinson sisters have just arrived home AFAIK.

Yes, Holly has posted on insta. If there were more tournaments, she might stand a chance of playing somewhere, but I doubt whether college players would be considered for QWC's at present.

I'm not sure they've done enough to be considered, to be fair.

If there were the play-offs, then maybe. But not directly into the qualis.

Again, would be nice if there some 15 or 25k for them !

Why wasn't Bisset in either the French Open juniors or the Nationals? Unless she's injured she should have been in one or the other - the U18s is certainly not 'beneath' her and I'd be disappointed if they avoided it. Perhaps she's been given the nod she will be be given one as a top 100 junior? Hopefully she plays the 100k Notts qualies next week, which should be a good benchmark of just how far away she is from that level.

She hasn't made an impact at 15k level yet so quite far away from that level so far but you never know, one big tournament can kickstart a career.

 Where's Marni Banks at?

Both Marni and Millie are 18 now, and haven't player at tour level (women's or juniors) since March. Millie played UKPro league week 3 in April. I'd hazard a guess that education has been the priority.

I think Millie must have been injured because she was in the u18 nationals and the draw for md was done with her in as top seed. She withdrew last Friday evening and the draw was redone without her and seeds rejigged.

I have it in my head it's always the Tuesday of Birmingham the first announcement is fine (with in ordinary times sign in for pre qualies being Wednesday for Thursday and Friday play).

Anyone heard any rumours of if it is tomorrow?

The committee normally meets on Tuesday with the initial wildcards announced at 10am on Wednesday. Not seen any confirmation of that this year.

Thanks RS. I suppose that gives Tuesday afternoon to inform the players.

I wonder if Niemer could be in the frame if she goes deep in Berlin. Feels a long shot tbh.
