Bit of a taboo subject, and I was looking to bump an old thread rather than create a new one, but couldn't even find a horse racing thread of any sorts, so perhaps not, but is anyone having any punts / much interest in Cheltenham this year?
SkyBet are doing their £10 refunded as cash on the first race tomorrow, so basically a nothing to lose punt, and Paddy Power are offering 3 £5 free bets on select races across the week, and Ladbrokes are offering a £5 free bet on any race tomorrow, so plenty of offers to take advantage of, if you already have an account with any of those. Think I'll stick to the freebies, and maybe £5-10 of my own money tomorrow, see how I get on, to determine my outlays for the rest of the week.
I do actually look forward to this week - it was great fun in the office last year, although will be slightly different at home this year.
Villa have been so so mediocre for the last couple of decades the biggest celebration and only bit of silverware seen at Villa Park was for Jim Lewis and Best Mate!
I like gambling but have a personality that means I will only gamble if I can convince myself the odds are wrong so gamble once a year at most and usually on football as a way of maintaining interest across the leagues premier to regional national league. Still gutted I didnt put an each way punt on Becker to win Wimbledon in 85 after watching him destroy everyone at the Tennis young master at the NEC in 1985
I like Cheltenham but very rarely bet on horses because I know very little about them. I do like the standards reviews of the other pundits
Not into horse racing at all. Only once did I ever put a bet (£5) on a horse race (The Grand National). I don't remember the horses name and when I listened to the commentary, I didn't hear the name mentioned once - which may be why I don't remember it.

I did matched betting for couple of years. Made about £2k but it has a limited lifespan as eventually you get restricted at the bookies.
If you have quite a analytical brain its worth doing.

I was a really big jump racing enthusiast 10+ years ago, but watching football got in the way and I tended to miss the big Saturday races.
I've started to get into it again since lockdown and will be watching and working at the same time.
Monkfish and Shiskin are the bankers of the meeting.
I've got the next few hours off, so settling down to it. I've backed Appreciate It with that SkyBet £10 refund offer, 5/6 so would only return an £8.33 profit. Also backed Soaring Glory £2.50 each way at 10/1 with PPs £5 free bet, so hoping that one wins. This race will determine how much I put on the rest of the races today.
£8.33 to play with since (appreciate) it won clearly. Soaring Glory finished 4th, and only top 3 counted towards placing, so nothing there.

Funny isnt it how horses become almost humanised as superstars.
Love it. At risk of outing myself here big fan of Crepello, St Paddy, Meld, Nimbus, Alycidon, Tulyar, Pinza and Ballymoss. Two of which are so good they are still running!!!

Well that would have ruined a few accas. Just as well that 500k punter did cash out. £250k not bad at all from a fiver for what turned out to be a losing bet.
Feel better now. I did stick a tenner on Envoi at SkyBet as I thought if it didn't win then it will surely finish 2nd, 3rd, or 4th to at least get my tenner back (would have only made £4.40 had it won...), but I backed Mrs Milner there £2.50 EW at 12/1 with Paddy Powers free £5 bet, so returned £36.
