You can tell what an Open tournament this is when the 1st and 2nd seeds are both beaten in the first round.

As discussed Sloane is a walking BYE at the moment, sad to say.

At the moment tennis abstract has Ann Li to win, followed by  Sara Sorribes Tormo and then Leylah Fernandez.

Wasnt Li the favourite on TA right at the start also?

Yes she was. She's currently the 8th highest ranked  player not to have won a WTA title so perhaps the time is now. Sorribes Tormo won her first title last week.

Harriet time!

There was probably a little bit of money placed on Harriet in the past 20 hours or so. Still very close, but it was Harriet evens, Kuzmova 4/5 when I checked on Bet365 last night, whereas now it's Harriet 3/4, Kuzmova evens.

Good luck to her.

Perhaps it's just the Mexican sunshine but Harriet does look rather pale.

Harriet needs to take her chances. 1/8 on break points.

And yes, Harriet is naturally very pale.

She took them all I think yesterday or atleast most of them. Breaking serve isn't as much of an issue as holding serve usually

Looks to be slipping away unfortunately. I thought she looked the most likely in the first set, but it's now 6 of the last 7 games for the Slovak, or 4 in a row.

Don't give up hope yet, back to 2-4, only one break down...

Had her chances. Frustrating.

I had a brief look at stats, her 1st serve percentage against Heather was a lot higher. Harriet has to get that 1st serve in to really have a chance and from the looks of it, it was down in the 40's in this match whereas in the 2nd set against Heather she was in the 80s.
