I think the ranking of Schmiedlova is incorrect. Perhaps it is the ranking of her sister who has also played tennis. Her highest ranking was 26 on 12th Oct 2015 and tennis abstract has her current ranking 117. She is the player who beat both Heather and Harriet at the 2020  Fed Cup tie in Slovakia.

Thrilled for Harriet, a lovely confidence booster regardless of whether Errani was injured. Harriet needs matches to get her mojo and fighting spirit back

Yes, I will correct the original post. I keep getting caught out by the occasional web page defaulting to doubles. I wish they would be consistent.

The WTA site gives her present ranking for SINGLES as 117 with a career high of 26 on 12th Oct 2015.

Errani's top ranking of 2012 to 2014 was 6, 7 and 7 - that ranking may have flattered her a little but she was a top 10 player for a considerable time, so to beat someone of that calibre by that scoreline should give Harriet a massive boost of confidence. Errani, although just outside the world's top 100 now, was consistently ranked in the top 50 between 2008-17, so she is unquestionably a major scalp for Harriet to take.

After I called her a veteran I got a lot of stick - hopefully it was just jokes and no attempt at trolling - I wasn't sure really, but I'll try and not take it too personally.

Fingers crossed Harriet can now get a win in her next match.

Playing a Colombian today in the Mexican heat will be extremely difficult. The daytime temperature is forecast at 28 degrees today for Montrerrey but, if the venue is in the dustbowl centre of Montrerrey, it is actually probably a lot hotter than that, and it is only if you get to the hills outside that things are a little more reasonable (Montrerrey is in the centre of a city of 5 peaked hills that form a star shape, that the locals have as their banner, and normally only the ghettoes and poor people live in the peak areas). Anyway anyone looking at her result today should bear in mind that the heat and humidity may make a win for Harriet somewhere between unlikely and impossible.

Harriet's match though starts at 12.30 pm Montrerrey time and the worst of the temperatures are around 4.30 pm, though they are forecast to rise to 31 degrees tomorrow and 33 on Tuesday, with high humidity on both days, a bit of a shock to any Brit who has been training over here during the winter.

Main draw has been published.
Heather seeded 5, but in the section with Sloane Stevens #1. Plays Kovanic in the first round
Katie is in the same half, plays Schmiedlova, with Bouzcova #4 likely second round opponent

Bouzkova has pulled out to be replaced by Q/LL. This is really the time for Katie to step  it up!

Agreed that Hibino could be a second round opponent. This tournament must represent the best chance  of success for Heather and  Katie which they don't get every day of the week.  Last weeks  Mexican tournament  provided  Sorribes Tormo with her  1st  tour title  and Bouchard played her best for ages. Hopefully Harriet  can be our 3rd  representative. Although Heather and Kovinic have been pros since 2010 this will be their furst meeting.

Best chance of success for Heather? Heather has won this tournament previously and has several WTA titles to her name. Bit of an odd comment.

No not an odd comment. If Heather is to add to her  WTA singles  tournament wins it will be at this level of tournament. She will never  match Jo in winning at  the level of Miami.

Apparently there is a stream available on Unibet, but not on Bet365

Lost the first set by 4 breaks to 3 - so it could still go either way.
2-2*

Harriet lost 6-4 7-5. Will she qualify as a lucky loser?

Heather is also playing in the doubles with Zheng. They play Gracheva/ Juvan.
