R2: Emily Webley-Smith (GBR) WR519 [6] def Jasmin Jebawy (GER) WR807 6-4 6-3

QF: Emily Webley-Smith (GBR) WR519 [6] v Vaidehi Chaudhari (IND) WR1084 [WC]

Six of the other seven seeds have made it through to the QF's - the exception being the top seed, who was in Em's quarter.

Scores have been slow to update today, Em's doubles is already under way.

Edit: Chaudhari noted as a WC

Chaudhari is a step up from the previous two I think, she came close to beating Bulguru last week and took a set of Naiktha, but you can't complain about that for a 25k quarter final, especially when you are a doubles specialist! Will be back in the top 500 when these points are added.

6-1 4-1* up in the doubles. And win 61 62. Two decent youngsters in the semi finals - Nagy/Lovric, who won the 15k last week.

As Paul said, Em will be back into the singles top 500 when these points are added. Looking at the ages on the live-tennis site, it appears that she will be the 7th oldest player in the top 500, one of 8 players who have passed their 36th birthday.

Of couse more concentrated on doubles and she is getting back via a weak 25K and with all her other points earned back in 2019, but I still thought worthy of note. With seemingly very little encouragement from the LTA, we have very few players that keep going on tour even past 30. That very much has needed Em's self motivation and enjoying the life ( in spite of her many moans )

Age of top 500 singles players at 22.03.21 :

1. Greta Arn (HUN) 41.9
2. Venus Williams (USA) 40.7
3. Serena Willians (USA) 39.4
4. Junri Namigata (JPN) 38.6
5. Samantha Stosur (AUS) 36.9
6. Akgul Amanmuradova (UZB) 36.7
7. Emily Webley-Smith (GBR) 36.6
8. Vera Zvonoreva (RUS) 36.5

Emily on second tomorrow (about 6am UK time). Her opponent starts as slight favourite according to the odds.

Nice interview in the local press too https://m.timesofindia.com/sports/tennis/top-stories/emilys-indian-romance-grows-stronger-by-the-year/articleshow/81450339.cms?utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=TOIMobile

She was 4-0 down. Hopefully just a slow start.

Missed a couple of break points in the following game and I thought that was probably it, but she scrapped and fought, got level, got in front, broke, and sealed it with an ace.

Fabulous fight. I just hope after 2 and a half hours in 35degrees she's got enough in the tank for doubles!!
