Boys & Girls: J2 Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, hard (Week 10)

Nice one, maybe top seed (s) but youve got to beat the field. Jack PJ is world 10, he presumably can rise with this, and also a similar field and same location next week?

Good stuff.

Was a wee bit disappointing that Jack didn't get any singles wins during his recent four weeks of Sharm 15Ks. But good luck to him in the final here and when he has another crack at seniors

I think Im correct in calculating jack should move up into 7 from 10 in world rankings if he wins his final, with 200 points for a singles win and 37.5 for his doubles at 25 percent points? And if he repeats next week in a field he is clearly strongest in, maybe 5th?

Yes, it was a bit disappointing.

Just for comparison, of the top 10 juniors at the moment, counting wins in 2021:

1. Holger Rune (DEN) - finalist 25k Spain, winner 15k+H France, finalist 15k Spain

2. Shintaro Mochizuki (JPN) - R2 15k Egypt

3. Martin Damm (USA) - reached QFs in 25k in Naples, FL and R2 in 15k Croatia

4. Juncheng Shang (CHN) - no activity (born 2005)

5. Bruno Kuzuhara (USA) - no activity (born 2004)

6. Pedro Dias (BRA) - no activity

7. Dali Blanch (USA) - no activity

8. Toby Kodat (USA) - Winner 15k Turkey, R2 15k Turkey

9. Alex Bernard (USA) - R2 25k Naples, FL

10. Jack Pinnington Jones (GBR) - no wins

It's obvious that Holger Rune is acing it which, maybe, as number 1 is right and fitting.

None of the others are that impressive - Toby Kodat, for instance, who won one 15k (which is great) then lost in the first round of three more 15ks.

However, Jack is the only top 10 player who has played a decent slug of tournaments and not clocked up any main draw wins.

The extra points for a singles final (140-60) in combination with the doubles gain ((150-27)/4) will be enough to take Jack up to 7.  There is a big gap between 6 and 7, so winning the final won't change Jack's position - but will improve his chances of further progress next week.

In the girls event Linda Fruhvirtova, who has won 2 W15s and reached the final of a W25 so far this year, has cruised into the final

Cool. His next doubles counter from a J2 after that seems to be 45 points , wasnt sure how that worked ? Ie he could only get 37.5 for a similar win next week? Have they changed the scoring system ?

Thanks CD for the research.  Holger may have irritated some of us with his attitude at times (particularly at Wimbledon 2019) but clearly is talented and starting to make his mark on the Mens ITF Circuit.  The top three ranked Juniors are also 3 of the 5 top ATP ranked under 18s.  Holger's ranking, just outside 300, is impressive for a Junior, but the standout is Carlos Alcaraz (132), who has not played a Junior event since Wimbledon 2019.

His 45 pointer will be the next one to be replaced, by April at the latest.  Hence the maximum Jack could gain in doubles next week would be ((150-45)/4)
