Eden seems to have had a few wildcards into Dubai/Middle East events in the past or am I thinking of someone else?

What's the connection down there, is it business contacts, sponsors etc?

Yes, it is Eden. But I don't know the connection.

Eden due on court shortly.

BTW, the WTA scoreboard is not to be trusted. The previous match apparently finished 6-4 6-3 10-6. And the tournament website says the same.
Sofascore on the other hand says 6-7 6-0 10-6

Of those who reached the last 16 in Melbourne, 4 have reached the last 8 here, Muguruza, Sabalenka, Mertens are 3, Pegula stands out at the moment as she has reached the last 8 of both Melbourne and Dubai, the two big events of the year to date.

Good start to her season.
