Week 9 - UK Pro Series (week 1) - Loughborough (Indoor Hard)

Interesting to watch Oscar v Anton.

Both born 2001

Oscar had the second set in the bag - led 4-1 - tons of 'easy' points for 5-1 and 5-2. (Only took 1 out of 7 BPs, and several right on his racket). And had the score by playing extremely well. But slightly choked at the end and Anton hung in there.

Don't know what Oscar's plans are - college? He is very slight and 'boyish', even by 19 year-old standards. Needs to fill out and put on some muscle. And work on his mental strength too - he plays quite intelligently but he looks like someone who's not played enough clutch team tennis - a US college coach would sort him out.

Why are we celebrating this? This is just a list of British tennis failures, it is totally different to watching UK gold, at least when you watch UK Gold, you are reminded how good Coronation Street or the Bill used to be, these guys were steady futures players at their peak!

You know when you have a list of 12 players, and Dan Cox has the best resume, that really says something.

Josh Paris beat Dan Cox 3 and 4 in the first semifinal

I rather think being a tennis professional but not being say a highly ranked player and being a "failure' are often two very different things. Just saying.

1. It's not celebrating, it's reporting on the activities of British professional tennis players.
2. Vandy should stick to UK Gold if he's got nothing constructive to say
3. Why am I even commenting on his post ?  wink

Strangely enough, when I first opened the post, the top part was scrolled off the screen so I was able to see the text of the post but not who had posted it. But having read the comment, I thought to myself - Vandy.

I wasn't wrong. wink

Didn't expect that.

Well done, Josh P.

Pleased for him.

NB Is Josh Paris the last surviving Josh?

In the good ol' days, we had Josh Milton, Josh Ward-Hibbert, Josh Goodall and lord knows how many others....

Is Josh Paris our last Josh standing ? (Almost worth a Player of the Month nomination just for that alone smile)

Bit of a slug fest as is the way with Billy's game. I thought in the first half of the match Anton just played the big points better but once Billy got his nose in front in the 2nd, he was much the stronger player.

Will be a good final against Josh Paris tomorrow.  And in case he still "lurks" here, good luck to your brother, Adam, but I'm afraid I will still be cheering for Billy.

Out of interest, did anyone keep records of last season and who won each week - I have a vague feeling Billy won 1 week , is that right, perhaps around week 4 or 5?

I think you'll probably have to go back to last season's thread. I have all the women's results, but hardly any of the mens.

Heres where a specific wiki page would be good!

it was worth asking the question!

I dont think he did. He was a losing finalist 2 maybe 3 times. If you go to the following link you can see Billys results from last years pro series.

Looks like Andy Watson has withdrawn, after retiring yesterday.

Tom Hands takes his place

I assume it's not the same £1k appearance fee if you're just a stand-in? But it has to be something. How do they decide it? i.e. for Mason when he stepped in as opposed to Tom just coming in for the last match. Anyway, pleased for Tom to get a whirl.
