Disappointing in terms of the first set tie break and ranking however needs a few more matches to get back into her flow because timing was definitely off. Hopefully she has signed up for doubles with someone on site for some matches
She did make a W25 final, and can only beat who's in front of her en route, and wins over Konjuh and a promising jr in Montgomery won't be included in the following stat, but, if you look at her tour results over the past 12 months, she's now lost 9 of her last 11 matches against players inside the top 250 - the 2 wins against Buzarnescu and Tan, defeats including Min, Talaba, Naito x2, Perez, and Bara (although the surface favoured her). Plus that 0-6 3-6 UK Pro Series SF defeat to Emma where the winner would have had a great chance for the $20k prize, so more than just a tool sharpening exercise.
Injuries and Covid clearly haven't helped, but it seems ages ago since she qualified for, and won a round at Brisbane in Jan 2019, and then qualified for the AO, reaching a career high of 121 as a 22 year old. 2 and a bit years later, 25 in a few months, and that elusive top 100 does seem a long way away, especially as the person ranked 100 is currently sitting on a massive 820 points, even if that number will gradually decrease as and when points start to drop off.
As others say, hopefully she can get a string of matches under her belt, and get her season going. I've not seen the schedule, but hopefully there's a couple of North American ITF events that she can combine with her next WTA opportunity.

It seems as though none of our female players are able to string a few weeks of tournaments together and it's been like that for the last 2 years. I don't see how any of these players expect to mess around with the odd tournament here and there and still make progress. Injuries seem to be blighting them and it is time someone took it in hand. Covid should've been an opportunity to really get on top of those niggling injuries but it's just more of the same and I can't help feeling that an opportunity has been wasted.

I agree.
Maybe Emma Rad has also seen this unfortunate pattern.
And a slight contrast in tour schedules since their Sunderland W25 semi final pretty much exactly a year ago. This is Clara's 12th tour event since the restart, she's won 3 ITF titles, qualified for the French Open, and beat Brady in R1. Surely just a matter of time until she breaks into the top 100.
Yep, Clara will be top 100 tomorrow !
She wins the whole shebang from qualifying without dropping a single set along the way.
Beat (1) Alexandrova WR 33 by 6-3 6-4 in MD R1 and after further wins vs Babos, Giorgi and Badosa Gilbert has just won the final vs Golubic WR 130 by 6-4 6-1
Emma Rad is going her own route but as I have said elsewhere I was already encouraged for what might be in the future for Emma, given Clara's results even before this great week.

Lyon wasn't the strongest field of all time. However all the leading French players were there and although they have more strength in depth than us they don't look like they have a Pierce or Mauresmo amongst their present players. Will the likes of Mladenovic or Garcia ever match Bartoli in terms of Grand Slam singles finals? Have any of our players managed 12 tournaments since the restart? That would be mainly at ITF level.
