Week 7 - ITF (W25) Orlando, USA (Hard)

Hopefully the court will be live for the doubles final tomorrow as the stream had ended before the semis took place today.

Katie S could meet the wonderfully named Volynets in the third round if they both come through - Volynets must be the best name for a tennis player ever.

Katie Volynets was the US 18  junior champion  of 2019. She had a wild card into the US Open where she lost to Bianca Andreescu on route to her title win. In a different era she could have played doubles with Anna Smashnova.

Yes, Smashnova used to my favourite

I was looking back at Coco Gauff's career and in particular the Maureen Connolly Challenge Trophy at Eastbourne 2018 which the USA won 12-0 barely dropping any sets. . Anybody watching this  competition might recall Katie Volynets played a winning doubles match on the 1st day and had a walkover in her other doubles match. Apart from Gauff  and Volynets in   what was an outstanding US team Caty  McNally , Whitney Osuigwe and Alexa Noel were also members of the team.

Caught it from about 3-2 in the MTB, just out of the curiosity for handshake/racket tap, civil. Bektas did look the MVP form what I saw, but obviously two in a team.

Now over to Katie.

Overall Bektas played better and the loss of the second set was down to her level dropping. Tara consistent throughout nonetheless

Just tried the link above but couldn't find Katie's match. Is it just me?

It's working for me ST, but I've registered (did at the start of the week) and am currently signed in, so it's there and clearly labelled for me. Not sure where it takes you if you haven't signed up.

Holding her own, 5-4*, one break each.

Thanks AV - I've found it now.  I was already registered as we have this technology at my tennis club

Fantastic, 7-5.

Huge hold at 5-5, *15-40. It was looking very likely that she was going to get broken in the rally, Zarazua was on the front foot, but Katie somehow turned it around, and then went on to win the next 5 points to put herself in a great position to get the crucial break, which she ultimately did. Nice one.

Good stuff. I've still got it open in one window, but I did try clicking through that link again just now and it was just spinning around saying 'loading broadcast', so I won't be closing that other window any time soon, ha.

Can't grumble too much as it's been very handy this week, and an unexpected bonus, but it does make you appreciate a scoreboard that much more. Fortunately, the Google timeline score thing is about 3 or 4 seconds behind the stream, so it is easy enough to check back every so often if required.
