I didn't know they still had indoor carpet tournaments, weren't they supposed to be too dangerous?

How does it play compared to a hardcourt?

Ah, Altenkirchen, the tournament that was kind of the breakthrough event for Harriet 3 years ago. Entered qualifying in the early 300s and after taking the title, and then backing it up with another W25 final in Japan 8 days later (between the events) was then heading towards the early 200s.

Her opponents in those 2 finals? A certain Muchova, and (V) Kudermetova.

Over to you Emily...smile

It looks like one of those events where you don't know what's happening until the match is over - I hope that changes for the main draw. It seems the 4th match is still on-going with one more to come before Emily is on.

Sofia had a decent Q1 win, but she'll have her work cut out in the FQR - her next opponent has really big potential. Lily M got a win as well.

Ace, do you know anything in paticlar about 17-year old Noma Noha Akugue - she's played very few tournaments and the SF in Hamburg this year is her only outing so far.

Yeah, she won some German Championships last year involving 200-500 type players and there was a lot of hype about her, so I was intrigued. I watched her QF of that Hamburg event against a Spaniard who had posted some decent results since the restart, and she was very impressive, won 6-0 6-4, which I was surprised about - big, clean groundstrokes, decent power, big serve. I watched her SF as well as it was against another with good potential, and she really should have won the first set. Parents are Nigerian, and a lot are expecting her to be the next German hope.

I'm pretty surprised she only got a QWC here to be honest, but definitely one to watch.

Presumably a fast surface if it really is carpet, hence why Emily chose to play here?

Thanks Ace, good background info. (you reading this Sofia ? wink  )

Emily will like the fast surface, but probably there because of doubles at W25 level. Could be heading back to France for Poitiers next week and then maybe Manacor the week after ?

Her closest singles match in a long time, shame there was no scoring. Hopefully a sign her serve working a little better and taking well to the surface though.

Tamira Paszek got a wildcard here but lost her MTB 13-11.

I'd say unexoectedly good scoreline. Good to see that she can still apparently be as competitive in singles. Now on to her doubles ...

Needs a good week in doubles here, and I am expecting one - a nice draw would be good to see. Semis last week winning one match, going a couple steps further would be perfect.. but who knows with Em!

Emily would have to get to the final to improve her ranking - like Naomi last week. However, as points will soon be coming off, a good non-counter would probably  be very welcome.

There's more than just live scores today, there's actually streams on the usual ITF site for the FQR matches.

Looks like there are only 2 courts here, and both being streamed, so probably will have Emily's doubles later in the week.
