I've got a few questions about rankings for those who know these things...
1 I know you need three counters for a wta ranking, presumably this means winning a round in main draw? Didn't they used to get a point for being in main draw as a wc which led to one or two getting wta rankings without winning any matches?
2 What is needed to get itf ranking, and is the itf ranking continuing for the foreseeable future?
3 Is there any list somewhere of those british women with 1 or 2 counters, also those with three who will soon lose one unless replaced?
4 Finally, why is it that the system for mens atp rankings is different, and which do people think is better?
Spireman - I'll answer some of your points with reference to the wonem's rankings - someone else can answer for the men as I'm not so familiar with their ranking system. 1. You only get a point for R32 in W25 and above - you have to win a main draw round at W15 level. 2. ITF ranking points are ony awarded for W15 and W25 qualifying - they still feature in the ITF rulebook, so presumaby carrying on. 3. If you look at one of the live-ranking sites - eg. openerarankings.com/WTAHome you can filter just the GB women, including all thosw with just one or two points. And you can click on the i next to theri points to see the breakdown and drop-dates.
Millie's match looks like a real battle: she went 5-1 up, back to 5-4, then mto (don't know who for), then broke for 5-5, held for 6-5, got broken again, then tiebreak close upto 5-5... hardly any aces or df by either player in whole set.
