RE: Week 7 - WTA 250 ($235K) - Melbourne, Australia Hard

Wow!
Saisai is never a walkover, she's an Energizer bunny. Ms. Jones not cowed, laying down a real statement of intent.
Flabbergastingly good!

Yes, Kenin, WR4, lost to a player WR727... from a set up!

Yes, according to the live-tennis site but actually no.

It had her points after qualifying (12 points) right but has now added another 60 as if she was through to the QF ( and is showing SF points if she wins her next match. She is 'just' through to the L32 (16 points).

Taking into account her 40 AO qualifying points, and taking off her 15th and 16th counters, live-tennis appears to have it as: 268 + (40 + 12 + 60) - (2 + 1) = 377 points. It should be 268 + (40 + 12 +16) - (2 + 1) = 333 points. So still outside the top 200.

Just need to win a further 2 matches to catch up with live-tennis

I see OpenEraRankings isn't even acknowledging that she's playing here and just has her on 307 points.

Whatever, superb stuff, Fran !!!

Sorry lol. And no, Sam ( where art thou? ) is shown correctly as still on 345 points, which would still have her as live GB #4.

There is clearly somethng personal going on with Kenin, she was breaking down in tears when she won a match, not nice to see.

Great to see Fran doing so well. Hopefully this will be a really breakthrough year for her.

Well done Fran!

According to the BBC Sport app she WILL crack the top 200 in the updated rankings.....confusing.....

On another note, not British but nice to see that Tomljanovic seems to have recovered from her Halep choke to get a straight sets first round win. Did feel a bit sorry for her the other day.

I see  Kenin was beaten by Gradecki who was unheard of a couple of weeks ago.Maybe she was thinking she should be playing in the main draw this week and not here.

A good start for me (sarcastic) it should  (Olivia) Gadecki not as above.

Interesting, for I still maintain, as above, that Fran is not ( yet ) live top 200. Now the BBC wouldn't be just going by a certain well set out, but fairly often wrong, live rankings site, now would they or ...

Ill say no more for now in case I am spectacularly missiing something and just digging a deepr hole, but I don't think so.

OER show Fran as having 34 points standing by, so according to them will be 307+34-5 = 336 points when the points go on which is WR204 give or take. live-eu looks well out.

I keep records too and I have Fran on 333 points. I've been trying to understand how the other sites got their information and why I was so wrong - but I trust Indie more than the others so will stick with what I have. Thanks!

Jo has played Aliaksandra twice before, winning in three both times.

The 1st meeting  was Jo's first match on the way to winning Miami in 2017. The 2nd time was the  quarter final in Moscow 2018 when Jo won a final set tie break.

Just watched the replay on Amazon prime, never realised it was on otherwise I would have watched it duel with Serena on my laptop. She certainly packs a punch and creates good angles.

Talking of Sam Murray anybody know whats happened to her. That was a big surprise she wasnt in Australia. Missed out on a lot of earnings as well. Has she retired or maybe pregnant?
