This is the ultimate pessimist but if our 3 players should all lose in the first round it would be the 3rd grand slam singles in a row where none of our female players had beaten foreign opposition.

Just seen the good news Heather won beating the same opponent as last year.Pegula beat Azarenka which is a surprise. Fran is on a court where there has been a long 1st round mens match.
With most of the big guns in the bottom half of the draw , Azarenka and Sakkari in the same part in the top half have both been beaten. Sakkari is one of the highest ranked players never to have reached the last 8 of a GS. Heather plays either Kontaveit or Saznovich next. Gauff plays Svitolina next.
Is Heather the 1st hard quarantiner to make it to the 2nd round? I think 3 of the 4 seeds out so far were in hard quarantine.
ETA Sakkari also hard quarantine so all 4 of them. This is what all the complaints were about, it wasn't hard quarantine, it was hard quarantine then having to play grand slam matches within 10 days, the 2 aren't compatible if we want to see a proper, competitive Slam.

Well done heather seems a well fought battle and a good win! It was 84-82 points overall so just a whisker in it, the 2 points that won each tie breaker !
Well done Heather, nice win in what on paper was probably an even money match - now waiting for Fran and Jo Ko; will need to keep a close watch on the schedule as Fran's match is almost certain to move court, as the matches on her court are moving too slowly for her to get on normally, and Fognini v Herbert will probably be a fiver setter, when they eventually get on - still on the second match on Fran's court, Wang v Vekic, when I last looked. I'm going to die of caffeine poisoning, by the time Fran's match starts (and I'm supposed to be working later - my poor customers!).
