Other events, 2021 - week 5

The Kenyan stint continues with a J5 this week.

In the girls, Anjali Kotecha came through qualis.

Kristina Paskauskas lost in qualis (as did Gabia and Maria) but got a LL place.

Imogen is in the MD (as was Ananya, I'm pretty sure, but I think she's withdrawn)

In the boys, Miles Groom also came through qualis (although Jeevan and Sergiy lost out). But Jeevan also got a LL spot.

In the MD are also: Freddie Ridout, Maceo Simpson, Oli Tarvet, Roy Keegan, Tom Aston and Will Jansen

In Nairobi, J5:

Girls R1:

Imogen Haddad (seeded 4) lost another very close match, 4-6, in the third.

However, Kristina Pask. made good use of her LL spot, winning 6-4 in the third.

And Anjali Kotecha (age 15) is the star - coming through qualis and then taking out the 7th seed (ranked about 750) in two sets

Boys R1:

Maceo Simpson is our star here - taking out the top seed, in three sets !!! A 17 year-old ranked ITF 279, which is some achievement, given Maceo is only ITF 1986

Oli Tarvet also got a win, as did Roy Keegan (7-5 in the third)

Qualifier Miles Groom also won his match nicely, as did Will Jansen and Freddie Ridout.

Tom Aston and Jeevan Samra lost though.

In Egypt, J5:

There was a win in R1 for Cheri Darley, but Harry Rock and Fabio Nestola both lost.

Pakistan, J5:

Our last R1 player unfortunately couldn't quite keep the R1 win momentum going - Tom Chapman, age 14, lost 5-7 3-6

The girls got a win in the doubles though, into the QFs

Congrats to Anjali Kotecha, age 15, for winning R2 and making the QF - her best ITF result ever and still running....

Lucky Loser, Kristina Paskauskas, also won her R2 match easily.

In the boys, wins for Oli Tarvet, Will Jansen (by w/o) and Freddie Ridout.

Roy Keegan lost in a third-set TB. Maceo and Miles Groom also lost

A very nice day for the girls in Pakistan, J5:

R2:

Iman Khan beat the 3rd seed, 6-0 6-4

Alaia Rubio Perez beat the 4th seed, 6-2 6-0

This will be Alaia's first ranking, I believe.

And, together, to top it off, they beat the top seeds in the doubles, 7-5 7-5, to make the semis

Raahim Agha, in the boys, lost though.

Kristina P is certainly getting full use out of that LL spot.

A nice win, 3 & 3, over the 5th seed gets her into the SF.

Anjali lost in three sets though against the third seed.

Imogen Haddad and partner have made the SFs of the doubles.

In the boys, Oli Tarvet won his match in three and is into the SFs.

Will Jansen and Freddie Ridout both lost.

Will and Maceo are into the SFs of the dubs, though

The Pakistan results not out yet but I see that the newspaper reporting it claims that GB's Iman Khan 'yearns' to play for Pakistan, and is reporting her results as their own:

A win for our 'GB-for-the-moment' (and who knows if the newspaper has any idea what it's talking about anyway) player

Girls Singles

Iman Khan won her QF, in three sets, against the 5th seed.

Alaia lost hers.

Also, the girls have been given a walkover in the doubles, it seems, and are into the final
